High contrast black and white photo in square format of two Japanese chouchin (提灯), or paper lanterns, hanging from the ceiling in a ramen shop.

The photo is metered for highlights and underexposed to give the feeling of a dimly lit room. A wide aperture was used to isolate the first lantern in the top half of the frame, which seems to be hovering in mid air, as the hanging ceiling bracket is barely visible. Two vertical painted lines on the left half, and small evenly spaced horizontal inner frames, run from the lantern's top to bottom. The right side has small vertical Japanese lettering in three columns, three more Japanese words circled in black, and a sake container to the right.

The second lantern, positioned below and slightly to the right of the first, is out of focus due to depth of field, but a dark colored crescent is visible in the center.

Oh wow - both both them are awesome.
I like the way you let the contrast do the talking and the focus on one of the lamps so the other is a bit softer... Great shot!
