@vicfroh@mastodon.social I'd add that in order to get rid of cars, we must also abandon the concept of megalomaniac metropolitan areas and embrace smaller cities with distributed services, small businesses and infrastructure, intead of concentrating all our resources in one same place

Trains should work and be affordable., as they used to be in the UK before it was all privatised. Instead we have, or will have, Ai powered cars. Because I suppose the important thing is that some one profits. And this is why we are all fucked.

Melbourne, Barcelona, Paris, Copenhagen. These are the cities I can personally vouch for.

@vicfroh@mastodon.social There are plenty of cities that do have really good metropolitan public transport (like Budapest & Tokyo) but intercity in Japan is ahead of most places I have visited.
It can be done, even in countries where much of the system is private (but easier to plan when it is public).

@vicfroh@mastodon.social What about self driving cars in cities you can call if you need one? the next self-driving car will pick you up, take you to your destination and then move to the next rider, instead of cars oned by one Person, which only stand for 22 hours a day? What if they could build energy saving clusters if they moved in teh same direction?
