Great snow pit from below, Riesengebirge, Germany between ca. 1890 and ca. 1900. Views of Germany

https://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/2002720537/

The image depicts a dramatic mountain landscape, characterized by towering rocky peaks with patches of snow. A valley is visible at the base where green vegetation thrives amidst scattered rocks and boulders. The coloration suggests an artistic representation or postcard print from around 1890 to 1900, given its style which was prevalent during that time period for such images. In the foreground on a winding path through dense shrubbery stands a solitary figure holding what appears to be trekking poles, likely indicating a hiker exploring this mountainous terrain. The person is dressed in attire suitable for hiking or mountaineering of early 20th-century Europe. The overall scene conveys an impressionistic depiction of nature's grandeur and the adventurous spirit of exploration during that era.
