@vicfroh@mastodon.social It's worse than that: They could do all of those things and still be abundantly wealthy.

@vicfroh@mastodon.social I feel the word "socialism" has long being used as a bogeyman, especially in the US. The easy association was with all their countries that declared themselves as being "socialist", and that failed usually, falling in some authoritorian regime - which can't be of any social utility.
Socialism is hard to apply with success to large communities, from what I've seen up to now. Maybe there's some connection with social groups theory, and the limited number of individuals involved.

@vicfroh@mastodon.social there's nothing more anti-American than a business who has to clean up after itself.

@vicfroh@mastodon.social guess when they use their money to repair the real world damage we will get a shock of inflation. Don't know how overloaded the promise "money" is, 10 real worlds? I even don't know how many real worlds we need to keep this one alive.

@vicfroh@mastodon.social I feel like my experience in Canada is evidence of that. It's a cheap imitation of the EU, but we have privacy laws with some teeth, decent labour laws, (especially compared to at-will states) and socialised medical care that is at least slightly better than the NHS, but there's a reason people say Canada is three corporations in a trench coat. They were smart enough to know you can get away with evil more easily if you give the peasants your crumbs.

what about individuals who , say, buy a giant SUV

shouldn't those individuals pay ?

or people who put a pool in their backyard, the incredible amount of toxic chemicals used to make the water safe - shouldn't those people pay ?

and what about people who eat meat a lot, or do a lot of vacations by car/jet plane or or or

@vicfroh@mastodon.social they are in fact afraid of socialism.
Socialism would mean that the basis of their wealth, of their power, of their influence and their fame would be gone by tomorrow.
A billionaire living in a socialist society would have to face the reality that they achieved nothing in their lives but ownership.

@vicfroh@mastodon.social billionaires are afraid of socialism. They are afraid of the oppressed people who have been made to suffer under their rule taking back their destiny.

1917 shook the world.

We send billionaires their fucking bill every April 15th. They don't give a shit.

What we need to send is a collections team.
