And the Grenfell disaster still has the power to shock:

The cladding company Arconic paid more to shareholders for the financial damage caused by their role in the fire than they paid to the actual victims....

Given that the insurers paid out most of the money, it makes it all the clearer that investors' economic welfare is regarded as more costly than the loss of real lives.

This is capitalism at its sociopathic worse!

These people are monsters.

@ChrisMayLA6@mastodon.me.uk Grim in the extreme.

Reminds me of when I was hit and nearly killed on my pushbike by a taxi. Witness got number plate of the fast vanishing car. Uninsured. And previous insurer at the time was therefore liable. Ignored letters from my solicitor for 18 months until eventually settling out of court.

So easy to be guilty and just piss on justice.

@ChrisMayLA6@mastodon.me.uk I asked a friend at a bank what the meaning of life is, and she said jokingly "To maximise shareholder value."

But it's not a joke, is it?

@ChrisMayLA6@mastodon.me.uk Capitalism is really enjoying this post-accountability market.
