Carajás
The Carajás railway where it runs through the Piquia de Baixo neighbourhood in Açailândia, in Maranhão state. Mining has increased nearby populations and revenue but faces claims of environmental damage and social impacts, including pollution, land conflicts, displacement and violence.
A mountain of iron ore in the rainforest near Porto do Itaqui. The port receives all the iron ore from the mines in Pará, where it is processed before being sent to China.
