Passed by these impressive big houses, overlooking the Heugh Breakwater on a visit to Hartlepool's Headland.
Only a pedestrian route separates the front of the properties from the sea wall and then an uninterrupted view out across Tees Bay to the North York Moors beyond distant Redcar and Saltburn-by-the-Sea.
The red-bricked property is called 'Heortenesse', an ancient Old English placename that translates as 'stag peninsula' or 'promontory of the stags,' referring to this coastal area that is now Hartlepool and West Hartlepool (the 'Pools') in Co Durham.
Hartlepool Headland is also the southern end of the 'Durham Heritage Coast' which extends all the way down the North Sea coast from Sunderland.

Houses with coastal prospects – two large detached homes on Hartlepool Headland in Co Durham, NE England. The properties sit right on the sea wall overlooking Tees Bay with views to the North York Moors.
