There's an easy, flat walk in Tipner, beside the harbour on the north west part of Portsmouth that provides views back to the port, across to Portchester Castle, and as here, the land that was formerly a Royal Naval rifle range. It's currently quite a nice place to spot birds and butterflies in the summer but unused land doesn't stay unused for long around these parts.

A tranquil scene set beside flat water and low land on a day with plenty of blue sky visible between the thin, almost transparent sheets and patches of white cloud overhead. We're next to a wide harbour but all the infrastructure and vessels associated with it are out of shot somewhere far to the left. We're looking out over the harbour water which has only the faintest of surface colouration differences to suggest there's any sort of tidal action here. The water is clear and very shallow near us and we can make out small clumps of black seaweed over a dark, sandy surface. A tiny strip of darkness on the horizon marks the far side of the harbour. On the right of us there's more land jutting outwards, reaching about halfway into the scene at its furthest point. The land is low with a shallow shingle shoreline that reaches back several metres until it hits grass that rises a little and is then lined with bushes that appear dry.
