I took this photo on the 9/11 anniversary, during an interval when the Tribute in Light was briefly shut off. Even without those bright beams, Manhattan’s regular light pollution washes out the stars — so it was impressive to see a few stubbornly shine through, including the constellation of Ursa Major (the Big Dipper). No matter how much we blind ourselves, the stars are there, waiting.

@bluejay@ohai.social oh wow, that is so interesting, to just be able to see the stars that make up the big dipper and nothing else. I know that's bad from seeing stars perspective, but it looks quite amazing in the photo.
