This property was advertised on Airbnb as "romantic off-the-grid cabin in a forest". Our private name for it ended up to be "horror house".
Beside being 4h drive from Seattle deep in the forest Olympic peninsula and not having any water or electricity it really had this unsettling vibe to it.
The darkness on the cloudy night when we stayed there was not exactly pitch black but still enough to prevent you from making out anything around you... it left just enough shades of gray to let you imagine whatever you wanted.
What really gave us goosebumps though was the sound - or lack of it. There were absolutely no human made sound to be heard. No human activity or voices. No cars, planes or machines of any kind. And weirdly, no natural sounds either. No birds, no insects or any other animals. No wind or water. Not even falling leaves or crackling wood in the forest... Yet, it was somehow not entirely quiet. If there are no human made sounds and no natural sounds either, but it's somehow not completely quiet, what is it that you hear?
