How do the casinos and scam compounds just across the Thai border stay online? Sometimes, with a cable from a Thai house.
In Sangkhla Buri, Kanchanaburi, Thailand's telecom regulator noticed two homes using far more data than any normal household. Officials, police and soldiers searched them on Thursday. They found an optical fibre line running from one house to another right on the border, its door open to the Myanmar side. A meter showed the cable continued another 350 metres into Myanmar, far enough to reach a local casino.
The owners are charged with illegal telecom operations.
