It's very easy to get depressed by the state of politics right now, but then you see interactions like this one, and it rekindles your faith. A new generation of politicians will come forward and they will be different.

This does not constitute an adult, sustainable range - especially when immense power, like the US carries, is factored into the math.
Do adult math. Integrate more democratic, adult value range(s). If it means making Behavioral Science core education - do it.

@jmaris@eupolicy.social This majoritarian democracy system we seem to be stuck in never worked because it's a popularity contest. Instead of working together to get things done, we waste all our time listening to speeches like this made by people who may or may not be able to do the things they say they'll do when they get voted into office. I am both anti-fascist and anti-majoritarian democracy. We need to do better than just running popularity contests like this.

El Sayed did a great job engaging with an attempted heckling, rhetorically hemmed Tommy in from every angle and pinned him down mercilessly to the actual attack he was making, didn't let him get away with vague propaganda noises. I would bet money that Tommy watches RW "debaters" who post one-sided attacks, and thought he was going to wow the audience.

Tommy is so used to seeing cardboard cut-outs of intelligent people holding office that he genuinely thought his question was profound, revealing about the the questionee when instead it is wildly revealing about the questioner.
The white-christian-nationalists in this country seem to have forgotten all the raping, pillaging, and murdering done by "Christians" in the twelfth century in Muslim nations.
The only thing they can recall is brown people violence. š

I've been to dozens of Town Halls in the last few months, and all the Gotcha Guys in the audience always leave after they've asked their question. Without fail. They can't handle sticking around to the end. Cowards.
