Because eMudhra is in the news, I am sharing a screenshot of a footer of an email I once received from them in reply to my query about my PAN card (a government-issued tax identity and card).

An image of text on a white background. The text reads, "Regards, eMudhra PAN Card Support Team". A horizontal line separates this from the final sentence, which says, "We hope this response has sufficiently answered your questions. If not, please do not send another email."

@rohini@mastodon.social "we are here to help, please stay in your homes!"

@rohini@mastodon.social to be fair, how could they keep attending to email queries when they were clearly busy coming up with highly-secure private keys?

@rohini@mastodon.social That's a polite way of saying "Just fuck the fuck off."

@rohini@mastodon.social I had a similar email reply regarding an enquiry about my Aadhaar card almost 10 years ago now.

When they first came, it wasn't clear as to whether foreigners needed one or not. Even all the way up to the deadline, no-one could tell me if I needed one. When we eventually were told "yes, you indeed need one", I went to 5 centers before someone believed me and then I went through the process several times because the system was not set up to accommodate foreigners. Eventually, I received my card.... And my name was spelled so badly. I couldn't get it changed.

I love India for many reasons, and I was sad I had to leave, but now I don't know that if I were to step foot in the country again, whether or not I would be done for tax evasion!
