Photo taken from an upper balcony of the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, looking down at the main lobby. Occupying most of the image is a large blank white wall, supported by columns on the ground floor and spanning several levels as it rises up out of frame. A line of text near the bottom of the wall reads “The Donald and Catherine Marron Family Atrium.” On the right side of the photo we see people walking along three upper balconies perpendicular to the wall. At the bottom we see more visitors wandering around the ground floor, which is lit in warm light; through the glass panels of a railing we also glimpse a lower-level floor strewn with round cushioned seating, lit in colder blue light. The photo was taken through a glass barrier, and so on the white wall we can see a faint reflection of a couple perusing a painting behind camera.

Photo taken at a Marcel Duchamp retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. One wall is entirely occupied by a blown-up black and white photograph depicting Duchamp in a suit holding a pipe to his mouth and reflected in several mirrors, which gives the impression of identical businessmen seated around a table. The image dwarfs a doorway in the wall through which we can see museum visitors wandering about in another gallery.
