Bass Lines, Low Tones, and Pure Chaos: Crispy Danger Is “Outta Control”

IntroductionGet ready to lose your grip, because up-and-coming Aussie heavy hitters Crispy Danger are bursting onto the scene with their latest single, “Outta Control.” Melding raw, heavy metal with a surprisingly infectious pop sensibility, this track is a wild ride.

From the moment the first note drops, the band hooks you in with a killer melody and bold vocal choices that refuse to be ignored. Dive into our full review below to see why this track proves Crispy Danger is absolutely a band to keep on your radar!

Talk about a groovy bass line to kick things off right out of the gate! That opening immediately grabs your attention by the collar, and when the guitar comes in following the same melody, it adds some real depth to the sound.

Then come the vocals and they were a genuine shock to the system. I wasn’t expecting them to be that low, especially during the verses. It’s a bold choice that gives the track plenty of character. Even if at times I would like a bit more contrast.

The chorus does however bring a welcome change, with the vocals moving into a slightly higher tone. I think that was needed to give the song a lift and stop it becoming too repetitive.

My one major criticism would be the drums. They feel completely buried in the mix, and it’s only when you deliberately listen for them that you realise how much is actually going on.

But then there is that guitar solo…

It’s so good! Just long enough to enjoy before dropping you back into that ridiculously catchy melody that’s been holding everything together.

You can definitely hear the heavy metal influence, but there’s also a surprisingly strong pop sensibility hidden underneath it all. It’s a combination that really works. This band are definitely one to keep an eye on!

A vibrant rock band performing on stage with dramatic lighting; a singer holding a microphone, a guitarist with wild red hair, and a drummer energetically playing.

Song Of The Week – The Consequences Band : Can’t See Me

We have hand selected our song of the week! Hope you enjoy it. The band have described the song in their own words as well as given us an update about what is coming up for them.

https://loop-earplugs.sjv.io/c/5544384/2853718/16615Song Background InformationThis song Is about so many things, a dark time in my life, getting out of our own way and just being who we are. Take your place, fear of success is real. Finding the silver lining in everything. I hope it feels triumphant by the end. The bridge was not planned and just happened in the studio and we went with it. I think it really made the track come together.

Tell Them To “Do One”: A Chaos-Fueled Chat With Plaiins

IntroductionIf you have ever listened to the Hamburg based Indie-Punk powerhouse that is Plaiins then you will already know their masterpiece formula… Heavy infectious riffs and social commentry disguised as a comedic punch in the throat.

The band recently released their excellent debut album Happy Faces! Proving that they can navigate toxic traits, European politics and absurd music industry meetings. All while making listeners laugh and headbang in equal measure.

We were lucky enough to catch up with Chris Reardon (Vocals) to hear the low down on all things Plaiins. Grab yourself something delicious and dig into this interview with me.

Spotify

https://loop-earplugs.sjv.io/c/5544384/2853718/16615InterviewYou released your debut album “Happy Faces” last year (2025). What made that the perfect title for the record?Yeah, I love the album title. I think with the album cover, and the sense of irony and political and social satire throughout the album, it’s the perfect combination.

Initially if you just read the title and hadn’t seen the album cover or know any of the music, it does give a sense of lightness and joy, and I think on the surface our music can have that but underneath we are always talking about something serious.

https://open.spotify.com/track/6eyCVzf6cl1kvNTlJwWbhA?si=ba00f255e7f44e3e

If you had to select just one song from that album for someone to listen to, which song would it be and why?I think Row She Said. As soon as that song was finished in the studio I think it was everyone’s favourite or in their top 3 for sure. I remember listening to the debut album in its entirety for the first time with my wife. We both cried and got very choked up, it has a real passion and power to it.

Its a song I wrote about Brexit and the rise of the right wing in mind, especially now that Im living in Germany, the rise of the AfD is frightening. I wanted to have the lyrics to be more leaning on metaphor rather than coming out and saying “Why spread hate you ring wingers”. I find political songs quite challenging to write without them coming across as bland, preachy or simplistic.

Because politics is very complicated, the world is very complicated and subjects like this deserve nuance and thought. I like how the verses and choruses split perspective as well, it gives another dimension to the song. Also great guitar riff, great feel on the drums and power, just awesome performances from the guys overall. Im particularly proud of this one for sure.

https://open.spotify.com/track/2lyAT3F7xraaydmQKAj0et?si=5aedb75faca947e5

A lot of your music feels like a social commentary disguised as a punch in the face… Would you agree, and why do you think it comes across that way?Yeah definitely and this is intentional and seems to be an area Flo (guitarist in PLAIINS) and I gravitate towards lyrically. As I mentioned above about Row She Said, we like songs with layers and we want to discuss topics we’re passionate about so I think this is a very natural way of writing for us in PLAIINS. Whether political or social commentary.

I think as well that this opens up opportunity to put forward topics with a sense of irony and humour. We also poke fun at ourselves too, like the song Sports Bar for example. Although we’re poking fun at sports lads and overly macho sports-bar dudes, from time to time the guys and I will turn into that ourselves haha! And we know its ridiculous to yell at the TV and say, “how could you miss that, even I could have scored that….” well….we definitely couldn’t!

You recently released single “Look Ma, I’m A Don”. What was the inspiration behind the song. I’d also like to know your thoughts on the rise of online “Alpha Male” culture?Yeah I think Look Ma really is a nice compact slap of the PLAIINS DNA. Its got the dissonant punk riff and guitar lines, then a very Blur, Beatles, Britpop vibe in the chorus. We’ve been really into these more gang choruses recently, I think this is from our love of the band PUP and that really comes through on this song.

Yeah we’re not a fan haha! This “alpha male” culture is pretty disgusting in my opinion, its very toxic and backwards. I know that men and women are different and both have very positive aspects but this “alpha male” is just very toxic.

It’s very toxic and backwards. It seems to be built around insecurity, this idea that men constantly have to prove how masculine or dominant they are, and a complete lack of self-reflection or empathy. I find it really disappointing and sad to see that culture growing online. There was a great Louis Theroux documentary which came out….I hope that presented a mirror to these douchebags but Im not gonna hold my breath.

https://open.spotify.com/track/2anJD22hq3IBZiVTatA8cS?si=d054014cfc2a44d6

I find myself in a constant state of smiling or laughing at your songs. Would you say satire is your most effective songwriting tool? Also are you worried people might miss the message and only hear the jokes?Haha! No we don’t worry about that. We write how we want to write and about what we want to write about, and then we put it out there. That’s it. We really work hard on our songs and never settle for “that’ll do” or “yeah that’s fine”.

We’re always pushing ourselves as musicians and writers and we put out what we are proud of and most importantly what excites us, ignites us and makes us want to put it out and play it to the world.

One of our goals on this record is that on every song we wanted the listener to have that laugh out loud or smiling moment, so its great we at least accomplished that with you! haha!

As a band that has toured a fair amount in recent times, what do you think the biggest myth about touring in a band is?Umm Im not sure, I think the myth that touring in a band is glamorous and just a bunch of people hanging out getting wasted isn’t there anymore in my opinion. The world is just too tough for that and if you’re taking this seriously and on the road a lot, people know its tough.

The money is so tight and everything is more expensive, so I think that glamorous myth is pretty much dead. Its hard work, we of course have a lot of fun and have a few beers and the last day of the tour we’ll have a boatload of beers but we stay pretty sensible really.

If you had to pick a local band to champion, who would it be, and what is their best song?Agassi and their song The Riot in the Back. Great band and opened up for us at Molotow in Hamburg. Lovely people and a great band.

https://open.spotify.com/track/65d535RZxMMB2ZRbezCQ4Y?si=a655f2f7bf0a4dee

What is the strangest thing you have seen at one of your gigs?I wouldn’t say “strange” but definitely something special I haven’t seen before. We played a festival called Zinkwerk this summer and it was probably our favourite show this summer. The crowd were just on fire with stage diving, crowd surfing, mosh pits, circle pits, wall of death, the whole shebang for our whole set, just the way we love our shows. 600 people crammed in a tent and you couldn’t get another person in.

There was a guy in a wheelchair at the show and his friends put him up on their shoulders and he was crowd surfing in his wheelchair. Was such a beautiful thing to see how the audience love it and look after him and you could see the joy on his face. One thing I really love at our shows that even though its a punk show, everyone has a beaming smile on their face. I don’t want any anger or aggression at our shows, ever. It’s a safe space for everyone.

https://open.spotify.com/track/4m9kgIf8BJd2EaxRMo2bbR?si=cfa551c87cbe485b

What is the worst meal you have eaten while on tour, and bonus side to this, what is your favourite food?Sadly we go to a lot of service stations on the road and we are pretty sick to death of Burger King and McDonalds. Best food has got to be in Italy, we played a festival there and the food was incredible.

My personal favourite Plaiins song is “Do One”. I’d love to know though how much of the lyrics happened? Could you expand on the back story behind it?Well, haha its a true story. Me and the guys had a meeting with a veteran in the music business. He basically gave us a lecture on what we should do, including releasing our next single exclusively in Korea. I guess because I’m half Chinese and half English, he just assumed I’m Korean… strange conversation.

https://open.spotify.com/track/6CklVaMxkKn9ejJCxTbvAL?si=ed2e93fafe134ce3

Which band member would survive the longest in a zombie apocalypse?None of us haha! We would be all dead on day 1.

I obviously jam to “Sports Bar” but I’d love to know what sports or sports teams do the band watch/support?For me, it’s Coventry City Football Club. I was born in Coventry, my dad is from Coventry and I’ve always supported them. Flo is a big St. Pauli supporter as well as Dortmund. Adrian is more of a rugby guy and doesn’t really follow club rugby — I think he mainly follows the internationals. Jörn is also a St Pauli fan.

https://open.spotify.com/track/02xeoukAVsMLhB8ylUys1q?si=e3c02603e77b48d6

If your tour van could write a review of the band what would the headline be?Stupid jokes, deep conversations about topics they clearly know nothing about, sometimes bickering, lots of laughing, and playing every show like it’s the last day on earth.

Where would you like to be as a band in say 5 years?I would like us to keep the fun and unity we have, sell out 500-capacity venues across Europe. I would love us to have played a tour of the United States and to have released our third album.

Finally which Plaiins song would make the WORST first dance at a wedding? All of them!

Firevolt Festival, Sunday – Stockport UK

See parts 1 and 2 here.

Kicking off the final day of the festival was the hard rock trio from Wales Mad Haven. Who were excellent live and the early crowd enjoyed them playing songs like ‘Are You Ready?’. A song they wrote when they were 14, so this band has been around for a while!

Mad HavenThey also performed ‘Liar’ and gave a live debut of ‘Cant Let Go’ which was more of a ballad. They finished their set with ‘Guilty’ and ‘Take Control’, which got us warmed up for the day in style.

https://open.spotify.com/track/3yteQlSsDmQFKKnRyHJYwQ?si=gmFwjHVLRUSOJiDZUk0DTQ&utm_source=copy-link

Häxan The first band on the Trooper Stage on the Sunday was female trio Häxan, and we were instantly hooked! Sam’s (singer and guitar) vocals were incredible, Harriet’s (bassist) stage presence and head banging was entertaining and the trios music was some of the best of the weekend with Jess banging out on the drums.

They took their talents to the next level with ‘Black Sheep’ where Sam showed off her full vocal range. This song stuck with us the rest of the day!

https://open.spotify.com/track/5Oof8U9TUg0gfnk83x0RMQ?si=14f6ebe8efbc4fe7

They also performed ‘Sirens’, ‘Thirteenth Hour’ and our favourite ‘Burn alive’,. It was only unfortunate that this signalled the end of their set, we wanted more, the crowd wanted more and so did the band. We hope they come back and they get put higher on the bill next year.

After their set we managed to get a vinyl which they kindly signed for us. We recommend anyone to go see these live so keep an eye out for them in the future.

Pryoclast Swedish Deville had to drop out but Scottish metal band Pyroclast stepped in as their replacement. They did not disappoint! Songs like ‘Manifest’ and ‘Minotaur’ gave us a real Iron Maiden vibe.

Vocalist Mark Reid was showing his Scottish roots by wearing a kilt, performing songs about social problems like ‘W.A.I.L’ which was about homeliness where Mark said ‘Everyone should look after each other’.

https://open.spotify.com/track/3iAyVV16d9VmWiC2I8s1ao?si=a83b8ff499b94fcd

Pyroclast completed their set with ‘Slaughterhouse’ and ‘Darkest of Times’ which are all very metal sounding song titles. They were hoping to fit in a cover of Iron Maidens ‘Wasted Years’ unfortunately they ran out of time.

Jack J HutchinsonIt was finally time for Jack J Hutchinson and his band to play on the trooper stage for some classic blues rock.

Jack is loved here at Firevolt and the crowd were excited to hear him play, starting with ‘Bullets’, ‘Don’t Let the Fuckers Bring You Down’ and ‘Road to Hell’ you could listen to him perform all day and not get bored, especially with his guitar skills.

https://open.spotify.com/track/30nO5nmTqdaWnweo3KPwdY?si=d35d5f3d0d294bea

We got treated with his new song ‘Soul Believer’ which got some air time on Planet Rock radio. After this Jack praised the volunteers who came on stage to perform during Jam with Jack, he is truly the nice guy of rock.

AprioriBack on the Bludsucker stage was Apriori, a 3 piece band with a guitar, drums and keyboard, this was an interesting mix for us but they made it work brilliantly. Apriori have worked their way up the bill and were fully deserving of their slot on the main stage for the festival’s 5th anniversary.

We’ve never seen a keyboardist entertain a crowd in this way before, his synth style complimented the heavy riffs and drums really well.

We got treated to a sing along with ‘Nah Nah Nah Nah’ where the whole crowd joined in before ‘Live Today’ and our favourite ‘Voodoo Love’ we were that impressed by them that Jimmy bought a patch for his jacket.

Finishing their set with ‘Shotgun Blues’ and ‘Making Love To the Devil’ they had well and truly created two more fans in us.

https://open.spotify.com/track/7pTBA5LonkORgQ1OTI8Ibg?si=7uv2nTqGQC2VeYu2qBx_XQ&utm_source=copy-link

The VirginmarysWe were really excited for The Virginmarys and we weren’t the only ones as the barn filled with people in their t-shirts.

The punk rock duo put on one hell of a show with ‘You’re a Killer’, ‘Just a Ride’ and ‘Trippin New York City’ providing a lot of noise and energy for everyone to enjoy.

These guys didn’t stop for many breaks and kept speaking to a minimum to let their music do the talking with Ally’s screaming vocals and punk riffs along with Danny’s no nonsense powerful drumming. It’s incredible how much noise two people can make!

The Virginmarys played an incredible 18 songs in their hour set with ‘When the Lights Go Down’, our favourite ‘There Ain’t No Future’ and ‘Bang Bang Bang’ no wonder Danny was dripping with sweat at the end of it.

These guys definitely should’ve been higher up the bill and in our eyes they should’ve been headliners, they were easily one of our favourite bands of the weekend. Luckily we managed to buy two vinyl from them and managed to get them to sign them which really made our day. We will definitely go see these live again and recommend any punk fan so to see them, you will not be disappointed.

https://open.spotify.com/track/5wRrWq7zhL35AQFLC6jnzs?si=Y7UJn5ihRfCZuC1J0kEN3w&utm_source=copy-link&sci=spotify%3Acard-config%3A70PQws7NqTcCIyDWQKi7OU

FMHaving been round since 1984 you could see why there were a lot of people waiting for FM. Many of the fans have been with them since the beginning.

After watching them for a few songs like ‘Digging Up The Dirt’ and loving Jem Davis playing the keytar we decided to take a step back and relax on the double decker bus for a bit of shade and a sit down. These guys are definitely classic rock but not as heavy as we were in the mood for, especially coming on after the Virginmarys on the Trooper stage.

https://open.spotify.com/track/6jLjEL7aedDPr9w5EbeSCr?si=1753d10e4fe64c48

The WildheartsIt was finally time for the final headliner of the weekend. The Wildhearts, fronted by Ginger who devastatingly has been diagnosed with terminal cancer has chosen to spend his time playing as many shows as possible. There was a lot of love for this band and everyone was looking forward to seeing them play.

They opened with ‘Failure is the Mother Of Success’ which we enjoyed as it gave a bit of a punk vibe, this followed with ‘Suckerpunch’ and ‘Nothing Ever Changes But the Shoes’. We enjoyed the Wildhearts music and thought they were very good live but decided we should call it a day after a fun but tiring weekend and make our way home.

https://open.spotify.com/track/1mV71j3oM1qYFzTVgkmAYU?si=8f1523c0e6534898

We absolutely loved our time at Firevolt festival and our experience and we are grateful to the organisers for this fantastic opportunity. This was the cleanest, friendliest most beautiful festival we have been to and easily give it a 10 out of 10, we do hope we get the opportunity to come again in the future and we will be more prepared and even get some interviews in. We have learnt a lot from the experience and will have memories for life, we recommend this festival to any rock lover, you would not be disappointed.

Thank you to Firevolt and all the friendly people we spoke to.

Firevolt Festival, Saturday – Stockport UK

Check out our review of the Friday here.

After a mixed night’s sleep we woke up to a 9 degree morning with dew on the tent and grass, after the heat wave we have endured recently we couldn’t believe it. We had our breakfast and went for a shower, which neither of us had to queue up for, everything was really easy at this festival. There were stalls open for breakfast or drinks.

Looking forward to our first full day, we didn’t have to wait too long for entertainment. We headed over to the Small Barn Stage to watch Jam with Jack organised by Jack J Harrison. This was a really fun event where people came from the crowd to play instruments or sing together with Jack to form a band, there were numerous songs played from Guns N’ Roses to AC/DC where two kids came on to play the guitar to ‘T.N.T’, we thought this was an amazing idea as numerous people could come on and showcase there talent and have a great time in front of a crowd.

Crowley
The Bludsucker Stage called us to see Crowley from Newcastle. They started their performance with ‘Necromancer’ & ‘Silver Star’ where we were blown away by Lidya’s amazing vocals along with the rest of the band’s musical talent and heavy riffs.

Everything was going well until Kim was having issues with her bass but the banned powered through during the problem, Today said “They are the most cursed band in the world something always goes wrong.”, we hope they get better luck at their next show.

Unfortunately this meant their set had to be cut short, but they still found time to play their new song ‘Queen Of The May’, ‘Temple On The Hill’ and our favourite song ‘Pyre’. We really enjoyed Crowley a lot and we hope to see them again in the future.

Mchale’s Permanent BrewAfter a short break we were back at the Trooper stage for Mchale’s Permanent Brew for the most relaxed set of the weekend.

Bringing the blues vibe, performing ‘Don’t Look Down’ and ‘Third Lane Baby Blues’ which really brought something different to the festival. They followed this with our favourite ‘Cafe Bar a Gogo’ which went straight into our playlist.

These guys were fun, making jokes about each other and you could tell they were really enjoying themselves. The crowd, especially enjoyed new song ‘She Loves Me Too’ and they finished their set with a brilliant blues rock cover version of ‘All Along the Watchtower’.

https://open.spotify.com/track/6RbHXY8XHnLiuDzaoaTUFJ?si=cgcOQ887RiaMxIZnGA8-dQ&utm_source=copy-link&sci=spotify%3Acard-config%3A31aDBYPxcUfLVbjLcDWX9C

Thieves of Liberty were up next on the Bludsucker stage where there was a lot of love for these guys from the announcer and the crowd wearing their merchandise.

Thieves of LibertyThey were full of energy and confidence from start to finish playing songs ‘Too Much’, ‘Calypso’ and ‘Sweet As Today’ with their fantastic stage presence.

During the set, one of the guitarists climbed up the hill to perform and we even had mosh pits. These guys really know how to get the crowd going and they have a lot of fun, finishing with ‘Rabbit Hole’ and ‘Shangri-La’.

https://open.spotify.com/track/66maoUIYizr7Awtf80UMsx?si=ETx4vT–TIOGjGkzl0eAug&utm_source=copy-link

LNNext up the Trooper stage had been taken over by Vikings in the form of a band called LN. Dressed in amazing outfits and make up we knew we were going to be watching one hell of a show.

Opening up with ‘The Slaughter’ and ‘Fenrir’ we were instantly hooked with their heavy riffs and Ellen’s amazing voice. The theatrics led to many a person head banging and a mosh pit, some fans were even wielding prop weapons and thrusting them into the air.

Ellen spoke up about LGBTQ+ saying “Everyone should feel safe, if you don’t then come and see me!” Which proves how inclusive this festival is.

Performing 8 songs in total including ‘Burn the Witch’, ‘Draugr’ and ‘Shield Wall’, where Ellen put fake blood all over herself and moved around like she was possessed.

We loved watching these guys perform and we really hope we get to see them live again in the future. After the show we met up with Ellen, she was really lovely and put fake blood on our foreheads before we went on to buy a patch from them.

MuddieBrookeNext up on the Bludsucker stage was MuddiBrooke an alternative/gunge rock band from Derby. They played ‘Cellar’ and ‘ADHD’ with the latter being one of our favourite songs of the festival, because it had more of a punk vibe and we loved their energy.

MuddiBrooke continued to entertain with strong vocals and the music to back it up with ‘Liverpool Guy’ and ‘Get Away’. Another highlight for us was their outstanding cover of ‘You Don’t Own Me’ which we reckon you could hear it from neighbouring towns & villages with the way Brooke was belting it out with her strong vocals.

https://open.spotify.com/track/5pNSaxqSqd5bXTsB3Ftoqu?si=E_RrWrPaRFynplW5vjpbkw&utm_source=copy-link&sci=spotify%3Acard-config%3A6br4jVNppOGg40pIW8wI8z

The trooper stage had been transformed! With antiques such as rugs and a clock on stage and even lampshades in the middle of a packed crowd, this was the scene set for These Wicked Rivers another band from Derby.

These Wicked RiversThe heavy blues rock band opened up with ‘Force of Nature’ and ‘Black Gold’ before playing ‘Ain’t No Smoke’ off their new album ‘Fire and Folklore’ which releases on October 2nd.

After playing ‘Evergreen’ These Wicked Rivers’ went on to play their newest single ‘Sing Another Song’ which was an acoustic song with a more country vibe which we enjoyed. After another of their new songs they ended their set with ‘Don’t Pray for Me’.

They really gave us a glimpse of their new album which we predict will be great!

https://open.spotify.com/track/2EyGrR6Zu2EztPJOVjOIQZ?si=tCIly_UVR62TRaSJq7aAPA&utm_source=copy-link

DareAfter playing with Renegade yesterday on the Trooper stage, it was time for Darren Wharton to perform with his other band Dare. Darren previously was the keyboardist of Thin Lizzy from 1980 and went on to create Dare back in 1985 where they have released 12 albums.

Dare definitely have that classic rock vibe where the crowd was singing along to their performance of ‘Wings of Fire’, ‘Abandon’ and ‘Into the Fire’ the latter two being from from their first album ‘Out Of The Silence’.

https://open.spotify.com/track/1nWPeKh6zcuBoORlute7Vy?si=4C2I1orfQkmWJpFo7Qnatw&utm_source=copy-link

Wednesday 13Wednesday 13 brought a completely differnt type of style and energy to the Trooper stage. We were really looking forward to this horror punk band.

There seemed to be a lot of Saturday wristbands around and we think a lot of them came for the day to see these and we don’t blame them. Wednesday 13 and his band came out wearing all black and their spooky makeup. Wednesday 13 said “If you haven’t heard of us before we play songs about death, dying and the dead.”

Wednesday 13 were very good live and entertaining playing ‘Look What the Bats Dragged In’, ‘Good Day to Be a Bad Guy’ and a song from his former band ‘Suicide Summertime’ by Murderdolls which was amazing live.

The Halloween party continued when they bought out a pumpkin full of sweets to throw into the crowd during ‘Haunt Me’. Wednesday 13 was going to celebrate his 50th birthday, Bev came out on stage with gifts, cake and a balloon for him, which was a lovely touch from the Firevolt organisers.

Massive WagonsAs day turned night we were happy for the sunset as it had been a hot scorching day in the sun, this also meant it was time for the headliner of the day which was Massive Wagons from Lancaster.

Massive Wagons opened up to a massive crowd and came out with high energy opening up with ‘Everywhere We Go’, ‘Fun While it Listed’ and ‘Missing on TV’ giving off a bit of a punk sound which we really liked.

During ‘Fuck the Haters’ the crowd stuck up there middle fingers to the haters, this was followed by a live debut of their new song ‘Story Of My Demise’ which has gone straight into our playlist.

One of the highlights of the day was ‘The Curry Song’ where vocalist Baz Mills shouted “When I say keema, you say naan! When I say rogan, you say josh!” This was great fun with the crowd and we really enjoyed it.

Massive wagons ended a fantastic Saturday of rock with an encore of ‘In It Together’. We made our way back to the tent and hopefully get a better night’s sleep in preparation for tomorrow.

Firevolt Festival, Friday – Stockport UK

Firevolt festival was started by husband and wife team Stret and Bev in 2022 originally called Firestorm! The festival began after a chance meeting between Stret and local farmer Karl, who visited Stret’s Recording Studio – Castle Rock Studios, looking for help booking bands for a new event. Stret and Bev became involved with Whitebottom Farm when during a tribute rock festival, Karl had organised he suggested, “You guys should do a rock festival.” As lifelong rock fans, their answer was simple: yes.

The whole festival has an amazing community and grassroots vibe, if you’d like to learn more head over to their website.

With this year being the 5th year of the festival we were very excited to make this our first official press outing!

We set off from home and drove through the Peak District to get to our destination, where we were greeted by a member of staff at the entrance, we had to drive down a single narrow road along the beautiful scenery and the River Etherow. Once we got the end, we were met by more staff who checked our tickets, gave us our wristbands and showed us where to park and camp. All the staff were lovely and made you feel really welcome.

Darren Wharton’s RenegadeOnce we found a spot and set up camp we found Nigel (media guy) in the barn at the Trooper stage to collect our drink tokens and managed to catch a bit of Renegade, the band fronted by former Thin Lizzy Keyboard player Darren Wharton. Luckily we were in time to hear them play “Jailbreak” and “The Boys Are Back in Town” where former Thin Lizzy frontman Ricky Warwick came on to perform the latter.

https://open.spotify.com/track/3fguB2Nrby1SWm1tZXsBe4?si=52PPD_LDRo6Y1HzcfL3ylQ&utm_source=copy-link&sci=spotify%3Acard-config%3A3eFR83NLQQ4icAOrS8FoYd

With 20 minute breaks between the bands on alternate stages, this meant we had time to wander around, there were plenty of food, drink and shop stalls, where the food and drink was very reasonably priced for a festival, with meals averaging at £10 and you could buy a pint of Firevolt lager for £5 which was very tasty. The decoration around the festival was great with signs, a skeleton and a kitted out old double decker bus where you could onto the balcony to enjoy the music from both stages.

The New RosesWe made our way to The Bludsucker Stage (Main Stage) to watch The New Roses from Wiesbaden, Germany. The New Roses were full of energy and a very good live rock band performing songs “It’s a Long Way”, “This Heart” and a perfect cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in a Free World”.

We loved their vibe and so did the crowd with a lot of them singing their songs back to them making it a real rock show. The energy continued with songs “Thirsty”, “The Usual Suspects” and “Down By the River”, really bringing life to the festival and got us geared up and excited for the rest of the weekend, we were gutted that they couldn’t play for longer but we do hope we get to see them play live in the future.

https://open.spotify.com/track/5RzYJPQC7Bqo2VKYbaZKjo?si=ohH-cbXeQcu6-66xo6cfzA&utm_source=copy-link&sci=spotify%3Acard-config%3A0f1J2agSVLsSny7qKUunee

Ricky Warwick & The Fighting Hearts After a 20 minute wait it was time for Ricky Warwick & The Fighting Hearts, in front of a packed barn, so we knew this was going to be good!

Ricky kicked off their set with “Rise & Grind”, “Jonestown Mind” and “Celebrating Sinking” which the crowd enjoyed, then the rock party really started when they played new single “Seek Zen Destroy” which was recorded with Phil Collen of Def Leppard.

Before playing the next song, Ricky mentioned that when he wrote this song, he could imagine a female artist singing this with him, the song is called “Don’t Leave Me In The Dark” and the artist was Lita Ford from The Runaways. Ricky said “Unfortunately Lita wasn’t available today but Richard (bassist) does a very good Lita Impression”, he did do a good job to be fair.

Ricky & The Fighting Hearts manage to perform 17 songs in their set including one of our favourites “Fighting Heart” and finishing with “Free N Easy”. We really enjoyed their set and think that Ricky is a vampire because we can’t believe he is 60.

https://open.spotify.com/track/1mMGbaFNsDoEjbwWz74Ju1?si=uRzYTqGxSYyKp9z45h6q_g&utm_source=copy-link

Mason HillWith the sun going down it was time to go back to the Bludsucker Stag for the headliners Mason Hill with new lead vocalist Tom Ward, after the previous singer Scott Taylor unfortunately got diagnosed with a heart condition and left the band.

Mason Hill opened up with “DNA”, “We Pray” and “Twisted”, with the latter being our favourite. They performed with high energy and a great stage presence, it was really cool seeing a band play at night with the lights in the middle of nature, it made you feel like you were far away from civilization.

Unfortunately we got really tired from a busy day of travelling, setting up and getting our bearings of the festival and decided to go to our tent, luckily our tent was only a minute walk away and we could listen to the band whilst relaxing.

Mason Hill sounded great from the comfort of our sleeping bags, they played “Without You” and “Hold On” before finishing with an encore of “Burning it Down”, “Remember” and Against the Wall”

Even though we didn’t watch the second half of the set, we still felt the good vibes and we could tell that the performance was great by the cheers of the crowd.

It was a great day for us to discover new bands and music, we can’t wait for more over the weekend.

Battlesnake Tell All On Bloodstock, Mind-Controlled Guitars, & Why Humans Make Them Vomit

IntroductionAustralian rockers Battlesnake discussed their unique blend of high-octane metal, fantasy like persona. Not to mention looking back on their show at Bloodstock Festival.

https://loop-earplugs.sjv.io/c/5544384/2853718/16615InterviewYou have supported some MASSIVE acts on tours! What is the biggest lesson you have learned from these bands?More is more… also that living a healthy lifestyle on tour is important for longevity. Not that we listened to that advice.

https://open.spotify.com/track/5now4qKmh4zuYNR3HtQzQQ?si=680b912a1b6c487f

Your visual style blends classic Judas Priest with actual priest robes… If Battlesnake was tasked with creating a uniform for a space colony what are the key components? It will be a nudist colony for we are immune to the effects of space, and so will our progeny be. But everyone must wear golden helmets.

Sticking with Judas Priest, you both played Bloodstock this year! What does it feel like to share a stage with such legends and what were your thoughtseel about playing the festival?Honestly we can’t believe this dumb band is on the same bill as Priest. They’re one of our biggest influences so it’s very surreal.

Bloodstock has also  been a huge target for us for many years so it’s a strange feeling to be playing the main stage. Kind of like living a dream. A really long, horrible, smelly, tiring dream.

I would love to know what is something that most people love but would make you guys vomit?Humans

https://open.spotify.com/track/2WvQ1hmKUHXoRlTKON77OO?si=132cae6fbf414dce

You guys have quite the wall of guitarists on stage. If the band was trapped in a medieval siege, which guitarists’ pedalboard would serve as the most effective defensive weapon? We don’t use pedal boards, we control the sound of our guitars with our minds. So we would use our minds as weapons via telekinesis.

What is the craziest thing you have seen someone do while crowd surfing at one of your shows?Spontaneously combust

What song of yours do you think deserves more love than it gets?https://open.spotify.com/track/1LEsor5aEYZ5376jz8rIuY?si=53091ca83fef4723

What is a musical hill that you guys would die on , that most other people don’t think is all that serious?Golgotha

Battlesnake feels less like a band and more like a living breathing fantasy universe. What do you view yourselves as first? Storytellers or musicians?Neither, we are simply translators of ancient religious texts

What exactly does the Nightmare King look like?Horrid and muscular with a V8 engine as his crown

https://open.spotify.com/track/6uHvpNrcrhX3QsvYmyFHCO?si=552dd2746a3e4640

If you were actually to kill Satan and had to replace him… How would you keep the demons in hell in line?We wouldn’t.

https://open.spotify.com/track/2yLodN25W5PJVheWxj7Dtz?si=acb9fd94ba13435c

When someone discovers you for the first time what do you hope they take away from your music? Our religious propaganda.

If Netflix were to create a tv show about Battlesnake… Who would you want to play Golden God?Margot Robbie

https://open.spotify.com/track/2OVhYEWWZh42jTzBE15uRe?si=d600760825404580

If you were to buy a pub as a band, what would you call it and how would you entice people in?The pub is called Free Beer but the beer isn’t free and once people are inside we lock the doors and they have to spend all of their money if they want to escape.

You’ve released an album every year since 2023, can we expect that run to continue? (Please say yes!)Yes… Probably… I don’t know… It looks likely…

Meatballs, Morris Dancing, and Nu-Core : A Chaos-Fueled Chat With Seething Akira

IntroductionWhat happens if you were to mix nu-metal’s aggression, chaos from electronic dance music and six guys from Portsmouth? Well you’d get Seething Akira and some seriously worrying Morris dancing.

Ever since their landmark album Cancel Estate they have been tearing up stages and stubbornly refusing to stay in a single musical lane. Their mission is to make people feel less alone and that’s one they achieve.

We talked with the band post Bloodstock Festival in an interview that is going to leave you out of breath, grab that inhaler and read along!

Facebook

Instagram

Spotify

https://loop-earplugs.sjv.io/c/5544384/2853718/16615InterviewThere are 6 of you! Would you mind introducing each other in the most ridiculous ways to our readers?Proceeds to introduce each other using the power of Morris dancing, flailing wildly whilst maintaining aggressive eye contact.

Which band member is most likely to get lost in Ikea? More important which section?Jordan (drummer) The smell of meatballs would lure him to whatever part of the store the meatballs are made. He would initially be lost, then thrive and raise a small but talented family of percussionists.

You’re known for your heavier songs, but I have to admit I adore “Reason To Breathe”(I’m a dad to a 2 year old). I want to know why do you do this? What keeps you going as musicians? That’s the reason. All art is a dialogue. Whether performed on stage or in recording studio. It’s a conversation between creators and observers. We’re all looking to feel less alone. It’s a search for community and communion. “I feel like this – Do you feel like this?” – Also, Kit adores his daughter and being a dad.

https://open.spotify.com/track/5YyclWSacS9eKQAZwfQa2k?si=7a2d118926784f43

You guys clearly know how to make bangers that get people moving. What bands you listened to growing up resulted in this mashup of sounds? (he says while dancing)(Joins in the dancing) Everything from nu-metal bands like Deftones (pants) Linkin Park, electronic acts like (pants) The Prodigy and Pendulum, (panting loudly) rap acts like RATM, NWA and Biggie Smalls and pop-punk bands like Green Day and Blink (pants) 182 (reaches for an inhaler).

Your song Gravity is a personal favourite of mine. I’d love to know though if you discovered gravity rather than Newton… What would be falling on your head? We’re from Portsmouth, so probably something been thrown from the balcony of a council estate. A pint glass, TV or cinder block.

https://open.spotify.com/track/0N86qtKKnfZPPZ7os1YVW5?si=6a6a5757cc2d4152

I’m sure your stage setup requires a crazy amount of cable. Which member of the band is most likely to trip over a power lead mid set and plunge the venue into darkness?Probably our bassist Spud. He’s probably the least technically minded, he wears the biggest boots and would be the most emotionally crushed at ruining a show. It would be pretty funny though.

You pack loads of energy into your tracks. If Seething Akira was hired to compose hold music for a tech support line. How long would it take for a customer to lose their mind? (For what it is worth I’d be praying to be put on hold)That’s very sweet of you. It’s hard to say. I think it would take a while. A lot of our songs start with our singer/producer Charlie and they start out as musical compositions that are then adapted into songs. Their often pretty interesting and mercurial.

That being said, if you asked Charlie to write music that would drive people insane – probably between 6 and 7 seconds.

https://open.spotify.com/track/5pJON0XfGP4wXgEGH4bvkl?si=a0402b05e3114b39

You have never stayed in a comfortable lane with your music. Was the constant evolution something that happened as part of a master plan , or is this blending of styles now second nature and it happens naturally?SA: Somewhere in between. We all have varied musical tastes, so whatever we make is going to sound like an alloy; a merging of disparate elements.

In Cancel Estate we feel we hit the epitome of that style, we felt we had created something that was perfect Seething Akira. We’re now in the process of trying to develop that. We are now making a conscious effort to do something different with familiar elements under the umbrella of Seething Akira.

Which of your tracks do you think could act as the final boss battle song in a game?Probably Dioxide. It’s a no nonsense banger that sounds very…fighty.

https://open.spotify.com/track/6prTrAgJl0gJ3nQqLHUNj0?si=362fb69ea6424854

Would you be able to go into detail about what the song Punishment Instructions is about? It’s a song about resisting control. Control through mass media, a job you hate or an abusive relationship. It’s about taking ownership of your life, raising your middle finger and telling those negative forces to go f*ck themselves.

https://open.spotify.com/track/5g6hSEYp98sSVlTo9vnvtt?si=da914806f0444dfc

It’s been a couple of years now since your last album “Cancel Estate”, when can fans expect a new one. Also how has sound of the band developed since that album came out?Next year! We’re all in the process of writing right now. It’s still early days but we’re starting to break into and contribute in different writing teams. We’re also changing up the way we write, starting with a chorus first and working outwards. We’re hoping that the next release will something a little different.

If your tour van came to life and started its own rock band what would it’s project be called and would you let them open on tour for you?If our tour van came to life the first and only thing it would do, would be to go into therapy.

https://open.spotify.com/track/0kl8eATv1QdAXY8skKFPAo?si=1d3bf815cd1444b2

If we were to interview you guys again in 5 years time what question would you want us to ask you? Bonus points, give us the answer for now and lets compare in 5 years ?We absolutely love what we do. We hope that comes across in our live shows and our interactions with our supporters. We hope that in 5 years’ time, we love this just as much or more.

So we’d like the question to be:

“You 6 always seem so happy on stage, what do you do to keep that enthusiasm?”

Song Of The Week: Wiltingflower – Siphon

We have hand selected our song of the week! Hope you enjoy it. The band have described the song in their own words as well as given us an update about what is coming up for them.

https://loop-earplugs.sjv.io/c/5544384/2853718/16615Song Background Information“Siphon” is a modern emo / alt-rock track that explores love at its most unstable, where devotion turns into obsession and intimacy becomes something invasive. Built around the idea of a siphon—a force that drains emotional energy—the song follows a relationship that slowly unravels into fixation, control and emotional distortion.

Told from the perspective of someone unable to let go, Siphon blurs the line between vulnerability and possession. The narrator believes everything she does comes from love, but as the song unfolds, something far more sinister begins to emerge beneath the surface.

Other InformationWe are currently working on creating merch, and are recording a 4-track EP in the studio next month. We are looking to book some more shows after that to discuss the release of the future songs.

All rights to the song are retained by the recording artist. This site claims no rights over them. All images were provided by Wiltingflower and the image is by Layney Marignier (@reefrunnerart).

Under The Radar – The Disagreement

Less than 1,000 monthly listeners. More than 1,000 reasons to listen.

How did you come up with the bands name? We needed to come up with a name for our first gig, and we disagreed on what to call ourselves, so The Disagreement seemed appropriate…

Where are you from?Cambridge, UK

What genre would you class your music as?Punk, Prog, Rock

For Fans Of?We think we have our own voice but would be happy to be mentioned alongside Muse, Green Day or Metallica

Where can people connect with you?Spotify

Instagram

You can find more of the band here https://linktr.ee/thedisagreementband

What is your latest release? This one arrives like a clenched fist wrapped in distortion. Fast, furious and gloriously direct, it’s a searing political punk blast aimed squarely at the bullying leadership and hollow authority figures who claim to speak for us while representing absolutely none of us. The guitars tear forward at full throttle, the rhythm section barrels along with barely contained momentum, and the vocals spit back with that mixture of anger, belief and youthful defiance that makes punk feel alive again. It’s protest music, but the kind that still remembers that rebellion should be exhilarating as well as righteous.

https://open.spotify.com/track/3ElbBo7R9E467sPWNQqSyv?si=e0c3a199055b4614

What are the three songs you would recommend to new listeners?A catchy Pop/Alt Rock banger

https://open.spotify.com/track/4d07DhoqpeLMjDjxRpMunN?si=31a79e926cfc4954

Full-throttle energy. Smart, joyful, and buzzing with intent. A Prog Rock burst of brains, bounce and teenage urgency.

When can we expect some new music?Taking a break from recording (for our GCSE’s!) and will record again in the summer. We have lots of tracks that we have refined playing live, which we now need to get recorded.

Who would be your dream collaboration? We are going to need to have a supergroup to answer this! Let’s fill

stage with Pink Floyd and Green Day and see what happens!

What is the bands goal for the next 12 months?Play more gigs, we just love refining what we do and getting energy back from the crowd. Some more singles will come along, and we hope to just get to know the local music scene more and support some of the amazing venues and artists in the area

What is your message to new listeners?Well done, you found good music

Bloodstock 2026 Review: Saxon Rules Over A Flawless Festival

IntroductionArriving at Bloodstock on Thursday afternoon with Cozzer, we didn’t really know what to expect as it was our first ever visit. Thankfully things immediately looked promising! Media wristband collection was as smooth as can be. Thank you Cosa Nostra PR & Bloodstock for the oppertunity!

While the drive in was a breeze too (thankfully it stayed that way)! The walk to the arena was longer than we expected, but when we did get there it gave us a look at The Serpent’s Lair. Bloodstock’s VIP and media area. Packed full of facilities like a media tent, food & drink vendors, great toilets and a dedicated stage. It quickly became one of our favourite places to escape to. The atmosphere in there was relaxed, comfortable and surprisingly chilled considering the metal mayhem going off just feet away!

As we stepped out into the main area for the first time we were genuinely surprised. Bloodstock as a festival felt small but in the best possible way! You are never more than five minutes away from whatever you want to listen to, navigating between stages was a breeze. With four stages, games and a huge selection of shops there really was an enormous amount to discover too.

We were particularly impressed by the merchandise selection especially the shirts. There was a plethora of choice although a lot of the designs did appear to be variations of the same design. That made the 30 minute queue feel almost useful, because it gave me a bit more time to decide which one I wanted. I eventually settled on a grey shirt and patch for my jacket, while Cozzer picked up a fantastic bobblehead for just £5. Considering festival merchandise can be ridiculously expensive we were thrilled that Bloodstock were different in that department.

Food was another major positive for us, for such a compact arena the range on offer was remarkable. A special shoutout needs to go to Spudman, who served us jacket potatoes that were almost as big as our heads! Yes, festival food is more expensive than day to day life but compared to the other festivals we have attended this summer, the prices felt a bit more reasonable.

The bars were a touch of genius! Being inside the tents it meant that whatever you were listening to you could grab one. Also it meant the beer was always cold. On such a warm weekend this made things much easier to cope. We quickly settled on Roadcrew, one of the beers by Motorhead. Why? Because Motorhead!

Speaking of which, Lemmy actually has his own bar at the festival, while the metal museum had plenty of interesting memorabilia, artwork and a bust of the legend himself featuring some of his ashes.

By this point, it was already clear just how well organised Bloodstock is. From the layout to the facilities. Positives on pretty much every corner. The screens inside the Sophie Lancaster Stage were another brilliant touch that we need to mention.

But enough about the festival as a whole, lets dig into the music!

ThursdayHeavysaurusI didn’t have dinosaurs playing rock music on my 2026 bingo card, but Heavysaurus certainly made an impression.

This is obviously an act aimed at the younger members of the Bloodstock crowd, and honestly, why not? Musically they were actually pretty good, although some of the vocals were a little ropey. Then again, they are dinosaurs. You probably shouldn’t expect Dio.

The human fingertips occasionally broke the illusion, but it was a fun and wonderfully ridiculous way to start our first Bloodstock. Even if Cozzer wasn’t quite as convinced.

https://open.spotify.com/track/2sSgyeUkx7Jv3SQgFCxtAT?si=44023e27a484495d

Evil ScarecrowIf there was one way to make the start of the festival even more fun, it was Evil Scarecrow.

Having interviewed the band earlier in the week, we were already familiar with their wonderfully bizarre sense of humour, but seeing it translated onto a festival stage was something else.

Props, ridiculous lyrics and songs about everything from Krakhen to green bins made this exactly the sort of nonsense that people need to get their music taste buds teased. Hurricanado was a particular highlight, once again proving that metalheads are more than capable of dancing in perfect synchronisation when instructed to. Vocally this was a seriously impressive performance too!

https://open.spotify.com/track/3B2kVa5NwmIcravuF0r6Vm?si=db751e5b1ab74539

Black SpidersOur first visit of the weekend to the Sophie Lancaster Stage introduced us to one of Bloodstock’s biggest strengths. That blue tent is FANTASTIC. A bar at the rear, excellent sound quality. Might be the best tent stage we have seen.

Black Spiders delivered an hour of excellent Hard Rock, with a three guitar pronged attack that created a huge sound. Cozzer was particularly impressed by their drummer, who he told me is heavily involved in charity work.

There was one slightly strange element though. The band had brought a female vocalist with them who we found it impossible to hear. Still she did walk around the stage a lot, so she got her 10,000 steps in for day at least!

Song like What Good’s A Rock Without A Roll and KISS Tried To Kill Me landed brilliantly with the crowd. I did find thousands of people being told to tell Black Spiders to “F*ck Off” a little odd but apparently they do it at every show.

https://open.spotify.com/track/6rav9LnbGplsfHHw0I6kv0?si=e463fd09cacc492c

SaxonClosing out our first ever Bloodstock day were British Heavy Metal legends Saxon. Bloody hell they were great! Despite forming way back in 1975, Biff and the band sounded fantastic. Having previously seen them at Hard Rock Hell I was pleased that they sounded somehow even better this time.

Songs like Wheels Of Steel, Never Surrender and Denim & Leather were all huge highlights. The crowd response to those songs alone demonstrated why Saxon remain such an important part to Heavy Metal.

With a set that lasted well over an hour and a half it really was one hell of a way to round out our first day. We wanted to give a special mention to the two minute solo from the guitarist that was absolutely incredible too. As we walked back to the car , we were already wondering if Saxon had set the bar a bit too high for the rest of the weekend.

https://open.spotify.com/track/181bQUGjSDPa0mZoPVGJes?si=16e5aa5cafd649ee

FridayThunarWülfFriday began in The Serpents Lair with ThunarWülf, a band seemingly on a mission to make metal folk again. Mission well and truly accomplished.

Their performance felt like walking straight into a fantasy tavern. If I had been handed a Viking horn full of mead, I would happily have raised it in approval.

Blood & Plunder and We Ride were particular highlights and provided a brilliantly theatrical start to the day. Especially as we could lie down on the big red cushions and take it all in!

https://open.spotify.com/track/4ufCixFPVJiG385lEsNciE?si=521b630e3068431e

Fit For An AutopsyCozzer: Right out of the gate, Fit For An Autopsy brought an intensity and ferocity that kept you captivated.

The aggressive instrumentation was complemented perfectly by the mix of harsh and clean vocals, adding much needed emotion to the heaviness.

With a setlist that felt like hit after hit, including Far From Heaven and The Sea Of Tragic Beasts, this was an excellent performance from start to finish.

https://open.spotify.com/track/79yvAWlqVukArNOxtyyKCI?si=5defe0e5b1a2483a

Nothing SpeaksWe briefly escaped the sun by heading back into The VIP area to be greeted by the songs of Scottish Hard Rockers Nothing Speaks.

The band brought plenty of enthusiasm and the crowd duly responded in kind. Fell Apart was my personal highlight of their set. I did have to wonder though why they had not been given a bigger stage. The band felt more than capable that holding their own in one of the main arena tents.

https://open.spotify.com/track/7d3RerIRn4F9WEBar5nP3f?si=1db2e3a10df44abf

Seething AkiraWe are thrilled we decided to stay for the entirity of this set. The six-piece Nu-Core outfit exploded onto the stage with energy, passion and a willingness to blend genres. It made them impossible to ignore.

Had the set been twice as long we would have stayed rooted to the spot. Ironically despite having a song called Smile Thief they spent their entire performance putting smiles on everyone’s faces. At the end of their set was a touching moment when a band member called his girlfriend to the stage and proposed.

Congratulations!

https://open.spotify.com/track/1AqBbvlw9IUdLNjnQbXAAy?si=de3ad138c6e14afc

Municipal WasteSo this was a Municipal Waste of time.

I’m sorry.

But honestly, I was disappointed. Too much of the set involved the frontman talking rather than the band actually playing.

The Guinness World Record attempt for the most people crowd surfing was undoubtedly entertaining, and whenever the band were actually playing, they were perfectly good.

I just wanted more music.

https://open.spotify.com/track/6egRwYsMJ8DVJQAKOjHWou?si=2d032c3812d9486d

SepulturaBrazilian Metal legends Sepultura are currently on their farewell tour after four decades of entertaining people. But there was no sense that they were going through the motions at all!

They delivered 75 minutes of fantastic Metal, with elements of their home country adding a whole other element to their songs and performance. By the time the crowd were singing along to Roots Bloody Roots, I had grown a real appreciation for the band.

It feels a genuine shame they are calling it time.

https://open.spotify.com/track/6ursmCnbc9oDRGa2yHKkoZ?si=ce0ca4ed1f5649c0

Lamb Of GodCozzer: With their heavy riffs and Randy Blythe’s unmistakable vocal style, Lamb Of God kept me headbanging from start to finish.

Randy’s interaction with the crowd made an already energetic performance even more entertaining. I still laugh now about the mention of the gated community in Europe. But the highlight came when the entire crowd sang along to Walk With Me In Hell.

A brilliant way to round off Friday.

https://open.spotify.com/track/0Aq5S8Did22z1YrpO7MJIG?si=35576953bc67445f

SaturdayDescendancySouth Yorkshire Thrash/Metalcore band Descendancy were our first band at the New Blood Stage. To play that stage you need to have won one of the heats of Metal2TheMasses.

The music was more than enough reason to stay.

With dual vocalists giving each song its own identity, their set never became repetitive. Crowd interaction was also handled particularly well, making this a very promising performance from a band still early in their journey.

https://open.spotify.com/track/3pmfqjjmnpKipe7nIVXavn?si=5ac7593ad73c4f25

VendedVended came out swinging.

Pure aggression, energy and showmanship ran through the entire performance, and it was obvious that the band have grown up surrounded by people who understand how to put on a show. The comparisons to Slipknot are unavoidable, but Vended are much more than an imitation act.

Nihilism stood out thanks to its balance between harsh and clean vocals, while the band’s visual aesthetic helped complete the package. Man do these guys look menancing!

And yes, the kitty tattoos were brilliant.

https://open.spotify.com/track/2JDPR8ZjXGGUHmqKTpJzcm?si=b8e6dd935545421a

NevermoreWhile the rest of us cooked like lobsters in the midday sun, Nevermore were busy shredding through some seriously complex riffs. Vocally, this was phenomenal. Cozzer compared the performance to former Queensrÿche vocalist Geoff Tate, and it was easy to see why.

Everything sounded incredibly great. Oh, and that beard…Envious over here!

https://open.spotify.com/track/3zdUWmaNcbTqv2V7ZYLXQ8?si=69863d623b7247d3

Bleed From WithinCozzer: Kicking off their set with the iconic bagpipe sound of their Scottish homeland, Bleed From Within immediately showed just how much this performance meant to them. This was their biggest festival slot yet, and that excitement was obvious.

They generated some of the biggest mosh pits and wall-of-deaths of the entire weekend, while their Scottish pride was once again on display during the closing song, In Place Of Your Halo, which featured a fantastic bagpipe solo. We both thought it was an incredible touch to invite Hannah Boulton to perform with them, she really added something amazing.

https://open.spotify.com/track/5oxfvvsW3cXmfZzOc1bEqz?si=55d06d948d8a449d

Slaughter To PrevailCozzer: Slaughter To Prevail unleashed absolute fury upon Bloodstock. From the opening riffs, Alex Terrible’s almost inhuman vocals demanded attention. The demonic masks only added to the band’s aggressive aesthetic.

Bratva was a particular highlight, with the combination of huge riffs, relentless vocals and theatrical presentation making this one of the most visually striking sets of the weekend.

https://open.spotify.com/track/2PIyfs1wqwjsOOnlYCUk2t?si=e907644ec2574cce

SundayOrbit CultureCozzer: Hailing from Sweden, Orbit Culture immediately got the crowd moving. Death Above Life set the tone from the beginning, with the band’s ferocity and energy continuing throughout the performance. A brilliant way to start our final day.

https://open.spotify.com/track/3DnSGTaMu11TybQmW9hJ1O?si=3e5fee9819d746a6

Old Sarum Tattoo StudioI took a slight detour from the music, but one that deserves mentioning. I got my first ever festival-acquired tattoo!

I’d spotted a little ghost with a guitar at Old Sarum earlier in the weekend and, by Sunday, the itch had become impossible to ignore. Wanting another tattoo for some time, it also seemed like the perfect way to celebrate the number of festivals Fox Reviews Rock has covered this year.

The Old Sarum team were fantastic throughout, from choosing the design to communicating everything clearly and taking great care during the tattoo itself.

I’m absolutely over the moon with the result.

Black Label SocietyCozzer: Black Label Society demonstrated their technical ability from the opening note, with Zakk Wylde leading the band through a masterclass in musicianship.

Quality radiated throughout the entire performance, but the personal highlight came when the band paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne with a cover of No More Tears. A truly fitting and emotional moment.

https://open.spotify.com/track/1h4XKoYvrypa9cqCSfDraR?si=a7edfa80af9840d1

Body CountThis was my first time seeing Body Count and, honestly, I had no idea what to expect. The relationship between Ice-T and Little Ice was heart-warming. Who would not want to share this type of moment with their dad?

Bringing a couple of kids onto the stage added another memorable moment. However the profanity was perhaps a little advanced for them, mind you.

The band delivered a strong performance and the crowd were clearly loving it. Some of the shooting terminology didn’t quite translate as naturally over this side of the pond, but that felt more like a cultural difference than anything else.

https://open.spotify.com/track/3CkQ541HYl8Gh4pNCKWytC?si=b16bc72abcd8447d

Judas PriestBy the time Judas Priest arrived, the combination of heat and four long days was beginning to catch up with us. The gap between Body Count and the headline set felt particularly long. Thankfully, the tiredness disappeared as soon as Priest took to the stage.

It was Cozzer’s first time seeing the metal legends and he had been eagerly anticipating it. While we both felt the performance lacked some of the energy and standout moments of earlier sets, there was still something special about watching Judas Priest close out the weekend.

Another Thing Coming and Breaking The Law provided the inevitable singalongs and ensured we finished the festival exactly as we should: rocking out to one of Britain’s most iconic metal bands.

https://open.spotify.com/track/2RaA6kIcvomt77qlIgGhCT?si=18e2ac7b7a89495f

Final ThoughtsOur first Bloodstock experiance was, well, quite simply a bloody good one!

From the incredibly easy arrival, excellent organisation to the compact arena and stage layouts. Helped further by reasonable food and merchandise prices. The festival consistently impressed us.

Most importantly, the music delivered.

We discovered new bands, watch legendary acts and experience performances that ranged from brilliantly ridiculous to genuinely emotional. Evil Scarecrow provided the laughs, Seething Akira provided the energy. Saxon reminded us why the old guard still matter and bands like Descendancy and Nothing Speaks showed us that the future of Metal is in very good hands.

There is something particularly appealing about the size of Bloodstock too. It manages to be a major festival without ever becoming overwhelming. You can wander between stages without spending half the day walking or grab a drink without missing half a set.

Perhaps most importantly, the festival feels like it knows exactly what it is.

It is unapologetically metal, but it also does not take itself too seriously at the same time. Whether you’re there for the biggest names in the genre, emerging talent, crazy dinosaur bands or simply having a great weekend surrounded by like-minded fans. There is going to be something here for you.

For our first Bloodstock, the biggest compliment I can give is that by the time we were leaving on Sunday we were already thinking about what we would watch next year.

Honestly, that is probably all you need to know, Bloodstock Open Air 2026 was a triumph.

Song Of The Week – The Little Haven – The Wait

We have hand selected our song of the week! Hope you enjoy it. The band have described the song in their own words as well as given us an update about what is coming up for them.

Song Background Informationhttps://open.spotify.com/track/1ZDBSDF1KBOFc7Ju1NQMSS?si=e70ce7749cbd4120

The wait is a song that constantly develops, it doesn’t have a verse chorus verse structure it’s straight to the point and slowly builds up to the big ending, that acts as a big explosion!!

The wait is the perfect example of our sound master a chill crazy surf feel, then a heavy dramatic element to pull every thing in together.

But the song as a whole is about waiting for something to change but when that change happens it will be great.

Other InformationFirst headline show in Bristol on the 16th August

Along with a Support slot in fuel rock club Cardiff with Zac and the men on the 1st, and some behind the scenes action of recording our next ep and some live sessions!!

Song Of The Week – The Binding Divide – Finding Forever

We have hand selected our song of the week! Hope you enjoy it. The band have described the song in their own words as well as given us an update about what is coming up for them.

Song Background InformationAt face value, Finding Forever comes across as a love song, but it was never meant to tell one specific story or have a single, defined meaning. Instead, I wanted to capture a feeling—those overwhelming emotions that come with discovering someone or something new that you just can’t get out of your head. It’s that gut instinct, excitement, curiosity, and almost addictive pull that often comes with the honeymoon phase or seeing life through rose-colored glasses.

https://open.spotify.com/track/1LYFuDja6kWCpwf748v3rT?si=595f194035904746

Rather than writing about a particular relationship or experience, I intentionally kept the lyrics open-ended so listeners could connect with the song in whatever way feels personal to them. Whether it’s falling in love, chasing a dream, finding a passion, or experiencing a major turning point in life, the emotions are universal. At its core, Finding Forever is meant to be a positive song that celebrates the excitement of new beginnings and those powerful feelings that can be difficult to put into words but resonate with so many of us.

Other InformationWe are gearing up to release our third single “ARROWS” as well head back into the studio to track 2 more songs as well continue to build our online world & narrative. we are also beginning production on our live show to which we plan to build a show that represents the music in a visually artistic way.

All rights to the song are retained by the recording artist. This site claims no rights over them. All images were provided by the band.
