A view this afternoon of the Durham Heritage Coast from the England Coast Footpath on the clifftops at Ryhope, Sunderland in NE England.
The sea stacks in the near distance have only relatively recently become isolated from the cliffs of which they were once part.
Just around the promontory lies Ryhope Dene and the boundary between Tyne & Wear and Co Durham.
Further down the coast, one of the piers at the entrance to Seaham Harbour with its diminutive lighthouse.
When the seas become angry, the lighthouse and pier can come in for quite a battering and regularly gets photographed putting up a fight (I've captured quite a few such scenes myself).
Using the lighthouse as a vertical pointer, directly above it is St Hilda's Church on Hartlepool Headland at the southern end of the Heritage Coast.
The windfarm is in Tees Bay off the coast of Redcar and forming a distant backdrop, the North York Moors.

From north to south, the Durham Heritage Coast from near its starting point in Sunderland to Hartlepool Headland, which can be seen in this view in the far distance.

Patches of purple heather just down from Easy Moor, looking across Cockshaw Hill to the profile of Roseberry Topping, near Great Ayton in North Yorkshire.
The distinctive half-cone shape with a jagged cliff, lends itself to being compared with the much higher Matterhorn in the Swiss-Italian Alps.
However, with a height of 1,049 feet (320 m), Roseberry Topping is but a bump in the landscape compared against the real thing whose summit soars to 14,692 ft (4,478 m).
The countryside just now reflecting the season of summer beginning to wind down, making way for autumn arriving in just over a week.
Great views from up here on a clear day making it definitely worth while bring the binoculars (and a camera!).

Up on the North York Moors near the village of Great Ayton and a great view across to one of the region's most prominent landmarks, Roseberry Topping. Late, late summer and the heather is adding purple patches to the landscape.
