Collegio di Spagna 🇪🇸 for

This is the main entrance to Il Collegio di Spagna. The door was built and designed by Andrea da Formigine in 1525. The rest of the building was built between 1365 and 1367.

It is the oldest surviving college for foreign students in the world. A few well known figures have also used this door: Miguel de Cervantes (who wrote Don Quixote, Ignatius de Loyola (who founded the Jesuit order), Holy Roman Emperor Charles The V and of course me (that's a lie, I haven't managed to get in because they rarely open it to the plebians nowadays 😂) ✨

This is a photo of the main entrance to Collegio di Spagna. It is pretty big, with ornate stone columns and relief which framedouble dark-wooden doors that are set into a terracotta-orange building facade. The columns are Corinthian and hold up the intricately carved stone frieze/relief and a circular stone crest mounted just above. Two bicycles are parked on the cobblestone street in front of the entrance, one on the left and a one on the right.
