🦆 Ay up, duck! These 1960s vehicles are Alvis Stalwart, left abandoned in the forest somewhere in Scotland. British soldiers nicknamed them the Stolly.

These 6x6 high-mobility transports are amphibious; they run on land and float in water. Two vector-thrust jets propel them through rivers and lakes.

Kind of like massive, angry metal ducks.

An abandoned, moss-covered amphibious military truck sits on a forest path, with another truck behind it. Inside drivers cabin A close-up shows the rusty, moss-covered front of an abandoned vehicle. One cracked light and another amber light with a nest of debris are visible. An old, moss-covered military truck, an 8-wheeled vehicle, sits abandoned in a forest clearing.

@ObsidianUrbex@mstdn.social did something similar get adapted into a tourist vessel on the river Clyde in ? Or was that some kind of fever dream I had?

@ObsidianUrbex@mstdn.social fascinating that they were just left (after an exercise presumably) there. Such metal monsters surely weren't cheap.

@ObsidianUrbex@mstdn.social Let's see how long it takes for Mr Hewes to grab 'em

@ObsidianUrbex@mstdn.social Cool. In the 80's I worked at a British army workshop in Dortmund as a labourer and we had to steam clean the stollies. Dirty work...

@ObsidianUrbex@mstdn.social Any idea as to why they were abandoned? And why there?

Why on earth were they simply abandoned? And why abandoned there, specifically?
Aside from (I'm guessing) an astronomical fuel bill, those would make for a great vehicle to convert into a go-anywhere camper.
