The colors of the crater from the Summit District in Haleakala National Park include orange, green, red, brown, black, and more, as this National Park Service image from yesterday afternoon reveals. A layer of white clouds hugs the crater and extends into the distance. Shades of blue make up the sky, deep above, lighter below, then deep again as sky mixes with clouds. A small section of a summit structure appears in the lower left and a tiny sliver of the park road appears in the lower right. The park name, along with the time and date, are included in the lower left corner.

@nationalparks@sfba.social I loved camping at Paliku. It was twenty years ago and I had it all to myself. I didn't hike out through the gap though.
