Down from 30ºC yesterday to 20ºC today, but still mostly sunny – hardly "cold" as such.
And yet, the garden was almost devoid of visible insect activity – most peculiar.
This female common drone fly (Eristalis tenax) was out there though, feeding on the ivy, so not a complete bust 🤷♂️

FWIW, it can be hard to separate the various drone flies in genus Eristalis, & from this picture alone, it wouldn't be easy.
But checking the other shots I took, showing the colours of the legs & feet, plus the thickened, bent rear tibia with hair combs, it's fairly definitely E tenax.
Which is hardly a new species for me this year – they're very common.
