Nice work Switzerland! 👏👏

European governments are starting to support alternative mobile app stores, such as @fdroidorg@floss.social , for their government-built apps.

Next up, government issued (fair)phones for civil servants that come with an open OS and open app store? 🚀

@Gina@fosstodon.org @fdroidorg@floss.social definitively a step into the correct direction. That said, I would prefer that they offer the same service/product also as website or webapp so that we are not forced to decide between Apple and google but could move towards open source linux. That would make us independent from us tech companies.

@Gina@fosstodon.org @fdroidorg@floss.social I hope the German authorities are taking note of this too. So far, the only response you get is: ‘We only support the official stores,’ or something along those lines.

@Gina@fosstodon.org @fdroidorg@floss.social does it mean they also ban forced id verification by gplay?

Otherwise many devs declares stopping publishing apps for android, and alt stores may simply dry out anyway

@Gina@fosstodon.org @fdroidorg@floss.social it's cute, sure. but way too little, way too late. much like most measures that european governments are taking whenever tech is concerned. (and probably other areas too judging by the downard trend of Europe).

@Gina@fosstodon.org @fdroidorg@floss.social Unfortunatelly it is at the time when some crucial decisions make the usage of alternative app stores harder for ordinary users: keepandroidopen.org/en/

@Gina@fosstodon.org @fdroidorg@floss.social no they aren't, mine punish any alternative by default.
