Years ago, the neighbors sitting outside in the evening were the neighborhood watch. Nothing that happened around them went unnoticed.
This particular group would probably be described as cotillas (the local gossips) strategically positioned in the square with a clear view of almost every house.
These days, though, everyone is looking at a screen. I suppose we still keep an eye on each other; we just do it on social media instead.
