2 Silver Street: the freestanding, monolith-like sign for this apartment building is made with dark grey metal panels and has protruding stainless-steel lettering (plus one numeral). Taken at an angle, this photo crops out the final letter T. The metal has weathered a little and the letters are somewhat discoloured. A blue sky with wispy clouds is visible in the top left corner. TW EL VE / 12

A redbrick office building has been painted black, except for its stylised street number ("TW EL VE"). On the street level to the left, the metallic gates to the structure's parking garage feature an interesting geometric pattern which is mirrored by a screen behind the reception area window on the right. 12 Forbury Road, Reading, Berkshire, UK. A redbrick wall has been painted white, except for two large numerals—its street number. 12 Forbury Road, Reading, Berkshire, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke.

30–31 Friar St., Reading

An urban passageway. The old brick buildings on the left feature many white-framed windows and numerous air-conditioning (or perhaps heat pump) units. Refuse bins are lined up along side it. On the right, a relatively modern office/retail building, with concrete walls, wood panelling, and a mesh-screened balcony. Attached to the latter is a vertical hanging sign that reads "30—31 Friar Street." The em-dash is stylistically wrong (it should be an en-dash), but I don't mind it. Reading, Berkshire, UK. In a paved alley, one section of an otherwise concrete-and-glass building has a brickwork section with a small sash window in the middle. The wall has been painted black and has "30—31" painted in large white numerals, with the extra-long dash being broken by the window. 30–31 Friar Street, Reading, Berkshire, UK.
