A Killdeer (Charadrius vociferus) keeping an eye on intruders on the shore of Vancouver Island. Photo taken during a recent private tour.

They have been nesting in this area for years. This year they successfully raised two chicks.

A shorebird with long legs, a white belly, brown patterns on its back, head and long tail. It has a long black bill and two black rings on its chest. It is seen from its side looking sideways at the photographer. It sits on a dark rocky conglomerate with a blurry green background.

Nice shot. So lonely on that rock.

It is really contemplating something.

"Could it actually be that the chicken tastes like an alligator and not the other way around?"
