What people defending AI don't understand, is how much people who dislike AI, dislike AI.
It's not just a casual "uhh I am not a fan of this" stance. It is a full rejection paired with mentally stigmatizing, probably forever, the AI product & the company behind it.
People on the internet have long memory. We all know who did NFTs in the past & we know who is doing AI right now.

@hardpenguin13@mastodon.gamedev.place There are different types of AI, one just basically helped create the cure for cancer a couple of days ago. But yes, image and video generation is pretty shitty even when it looks really good. Art is for humans by humans

The problem here though is that nobody is willing to have a rational open minded discussion. What you believe is above questioning and at no point are you willing to entertain changing your mind. It's about shouting into the void that you're right and you don't need to consider anyhting else.

@hardpenguin13@mastodon.gamedev.place @pheedbackPhil@mastodon.social a dev who built a product we use daily but which has had no updates for ages and is built/dependent on an obsolete ubuntu release (we keep it safely firewalled away for now while assessing our options) has surfaced with renewed zeal and vigor with an entirely new replacement for the abandoned one and it is vibe coded and vibe blogged and it has proved very hard for me to build the enthusiasm to evaluate it.

@hardpenguin13@mastodon.gamedev.place my employer used to trumpet its commitments to reducing carbon emissions and to promote social good things. I remember one announcement years ago about using NFTs to encourage better environmental behaviour, but things like that were rare.
Now we get a daily inspirational email from the HQ about how amazing AI is and no mention of our environmental or social goals, unless they can be enabled through LLMs.

Team anti-slop is perfectly aware of what these machines can and can’t do (
with or without constant handholding).
Team ”enthusiasts” on the other hand do their best to ignore anything related to drive by pull requests, privacy, creators right, environmental impact, labour conditions (labelers), data imperialism, risks of deskiilling, and end user health.

It's not a "oh they don't have beef, I'll take chicken" casual kind of choice!
And even if statistically people who have strong feelings against AI are a minority - it is a minority vocal and stern in their decisions like never seen before!
