Lake Dawson and the West River Valley from West Rock Ridge State Park, Woodbridge, Connecticut. October 21, 2024, 2:24 PM. Wide-angle.

A cloudless sky of robin's egg blue. Sitting on an outcrop of light reddish-brown rock liberally covered with light gray lichen. The outcrop looks out over a portion of a long, narrow valley a few hundred feet below and a long, flattish ridge across the valley. A rural two-lane road through the valley. The grass-covered earthen dam and lower end of a reservoir is to the right of our pic. The water is deep blue on this perfect autumn day. There are wide swaths of mowed grass and pastures near the dam and a few farm buildings and houses visible, but the vast majority of the valley and the ridges on either side is covered with a forest sporting slightly past peak but still vibrant foliage of golds, yellows, oranges and brick reds.
