What have you people used to get away from Adobe Lightroom? This is about raw photos but also about properly managing a photo library.

I know about both Rawtherapee and Darktable. I've used both in the past but mostly for one-shot RAW conversion. I've seen that Darktable now has machine learning support (e.g. Segment Anything for masking) which is a plus. But are there other (not necessarily open source) apps for photo libraries? Like what Affinity is for Photoshop...?

@compfu@mograph.social I'm not a pro but ON1 scratched that itch of library management and editing for me. They frequently do heavy discounts.
It's still not as good as Aperture ever was, but what is. 🙃

@compfu@mograph.social I agree that Rawtherapee is not very helpful for managing libraries. Not sure about Darktable.
If you're looking for something to mainly manage your collection, what about Digikam?

Tried out on Windows... it takes a while to open and I had to check the task manager to see that it's actually running. It starts with a setup wizard that asks me database-related questions. I know what Sqlite is but do other photographers? It highlights widgets whenever I move my mouse over them which makes any UI immediately feel fragile and dated I think. It thinks my 4TB USB disk is a USB stick and the import feature locks up because it wants to process thousands of photos.

👎 sorry

@compfu@mograph.social I haven't tried this yet, but I can't stop being impressed by the development of https://getrapidraw.com/
I'm just being hesitant with all new open source projects these days, but I might try this soon.
