Porta San Paolo, the ancient Porta Ostiensis, in Rome, photographed on 13 April 2026. The monumental Roman gate rises between two massive cylindrical brick towers topped with battlements, with the central arched passage opening at street level. Modern Rome flows immediately in front of the ancient structure, with cars, pedestrians, traffic lights and road signs creating a striking contrast between the surviving Roman walls and the contemporary city.
