Your photos, your words and your work: why is Labor making it easier for AI companies to take them for free?

"Leaked documents from a government proposal show that the Albanese government is considering reversing the fundamental rights of Australians under copyright law.

The proposal refers to an “opt-out model”. This would give AI companies permission to train on the open internet here in Australia. Every family photo you ever posted, every small business website, every website would be fair game for AI companies unless you choose to opt out.

Right now, under Australian law, a company has to ask for permission if it wants to use your content. This proposal would mean it doesn’t. It would put the onus on the individual to opt out – through a mechanism that hasn’t yet been proven to work. And it would give AI companies rights to your content until you choose to say no. This flips the legal burden on to the individual. It means that our legal system would serve the interests of AI companies first."

Friar’s Crag & Strandshag Bay.

After our clockwise boat trip around Derwentwater, we had a break for lunch at Treeby’s Café on Lake Road. It’s a lovely eating place sited on the ground floor beneath the Treeby and Bolton Gallery, accessible either through the gallery or via the entrance on Lake Road.

We then returned to the lakeside to take a look at Friar’s Crag, a small promontory overlooking the lake and Strandshag Bay and giving distant views of the jaws of Borrowdale.

Day 3: The Clockwise Boat Trip

Our third day in the Lake District found us taking a second tour of Derwent Water by boat, this time in the clockwise direction, to give us a clearer idea of the various landing points.

By this time, we’d discovered a better route from the B & B to the lake, avoiding the town centre and taking us across a couple of fields direct to the lakeside.

I often improvise. I was watching an anime where a character complained that he typically ate his eggs fried with soy sauce instead of western style, which led to the picture which is three eggs with soy sauce, plus sautéed garlic and scallions, butter, and drops of smoked sesame oil, finished with goat gouda after flipping the eggs half-over; that's why it looks like an omelette despite leaking yolk.

Although I published this book a few months ago, I didn't tell anyone until I could check it out first myself. 'VAGABOND' is a photo-book cataloguing my 150 best photographs—selected from over 10,000—taken between 2015 and 2025, documenting travels across Asia, Europe and North America.

Tove Marika Jansson
 (9 August 1914 – 27 June 2001) was a Swedish-speaking Finnish author, novelist, painter, illustrator and comic strip author.
Jansson wrote the Moomin books for children, starting in 1945.

Finnish Artist Tove Jansson Was More Than Just the Creator of the Moomins

The #Moomins are beloved the world over, but what do we know of their creator, Tove Jansson?

Artist Tove Jansson was a Finnish (swedish speaking) painter, illustrator, and novelist. Her eclectic mix of graphic line drawings and soft-contoured paintings, range from stoic self-portraits and cartoonish illustrations, to light-filled landscapes. She is perhaps best known for her creation of the The Moomins, a series of books portraying a fictional family of troll-like creatures.

Brought up by artistic parents, Jansson studied art from 1930 to 1938 in Stockholm, Helsinki and Paris: Jansson studied at the University College of Arts, Crafts, and Design in Stockholm until 1933, and at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1938.
Her first solo art exhibition was in 1943. At the same time, she was writing short stories and articles for publication, as well as creating the graphics for book covers and other purposes. She continued to work as an artist and a writer for the rest of her life.

She later found work as a commercial illustrator and political satirist in European periodicals.

Notably, she illustrated Swedish editions of J.R.R. Tolkein’s The Hobbit and Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

Jansson died on June 27, 2001 in Helsinki, Finland.
