This is the Gefion fountain in Copenhagen, donated by Carlsberg and built around the start of the 20th century. The fountain represents the myth of the forming of Zealand on which Copenhagen sits when the Norse goddess Gefion was promised all the land she could plough in one night by the Swedish king who had not realised she could transform her sons to oxen.

It's a bright day with lots of thin, white layers of cloud in the sky but plenty of patches of blue tearing them apart. We're looking at a fountain set back in a large pond either side of which there are wide paths that run along then rise up behind the fountain a few metres giving visitors good opportunities to see the structure from all around and at slightly different elevations. The pond has walls of large, rounded stones of varying sizes and rounded stones also punctuate the water's surface at the base of the two small, but wide cascades that step up to the fountain itself. The fountain is mounted on a curved, stone base practically as wide as the pond itself and the sculpted forms on the top are of a woman driving oxen directly towards us. Either side of the upper cascade there are thick serpents. The lower cascade is flanked by men's torsos, gripping the walls with their arms and turning their heads back to shoot jets of water over the pond, crossing over just before they hit th
