In early April 2014, I had (and indeed sought out) the opportunity to do a ‘photo report’ in the slums of Nairobi, where a friend was working for MSF. Nothing official, at my own expense, simply because I liked the idea. And also in the secret hope of securing other opportunities of a similar nature. The photos were very well received, but it didn’t lead to much else (apart from some wonderful encounters).

A horizontal colour photograph of the façade of a corrugated-sheet house in the heart of one of Nairobi’s slums. White and yellow inscriptions, in English and Kiswahili, cover the corrugated sheets, calling for peace. A very faded red fabric with white patterns serves as the front door. The uneven floor is made of compacted earth. To the right, a rabbit hutch, also made of corrugated metal sheets, can be seen.
