Was looking at redosier dogwood (Cornus sericea) berries, was visited by this crane fly

A cluster of round white dogwood berries droops down amid the bush's oval green leaves. There is a dead leaf on the ground, turning bright yellow. The leaf and berry stems are a somber red, which gets brighter in winter. A pale tan crane fly has landed on a green dogwood leaf. It has very long legs that reach out beyond its translucent, golden, veined wings, balancing it in the middle. Its body is long and looks very fragile.

I think the western redcedars (Thuja plicata) are competing with banyans for trunk structures

The tree roots lift the sidewalk blocks, hence the blue warning stripe.

A large multitrunk redcedar grows under a sidewalk and against a garden retaining wall. On the left, you can see many branches springing up vertically from a horizontally sprawling trunk segment, and multiple small branching trunks from a base trunk on the right. It almost looks like a comb of small trunks. The bark is rough and grayish orange. The retaining wall behind it is covered with green algae, which form a film on parts of the trunk.
