We travel often at this time of the year because kids have gone back to school and travel is cheaper and more pleasant. Coincidental that my birthday falls right now too.

A portrait orientation shot taken on a dry but overcast day. We're looking at buildings in an Italian riviera style tucked into a woodland setting, framed by trees either side and in front of us. Some buildings are colourful and one large structure is topped with a dome and small clock tower on its apex.

It's a grey day and we're in a historic part of a city where the narrow street leading away from us is cobbled. The buildings either side are all two storeys high, all panelled with white wood, and with steep roofs of red tiles. Some plants hang from near doorways along the road and there are a few people in the distance walking away from us.

A portrait orientation view shows the inside of St Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City. Huge, square pillars are topped by arches in two rows stretching away from us. Between them the ceiling forms a curve until it reaches the far end where a domed opening can just be seen and daylight comes in from above. The ceiling is highly decorated in panels but the height of the church makes it difficult to make out any details.

We're on a high bank on one side of a river on an overcast day. Both sides of the banks are steep, almost sheer, and covered with greenery on their sides and topped with bushes and trees. A bridge spans the river. It is wide and made from pale stone, dirty with exposure to the elements, with two thick supports connected by a long, shallow arch. On the far bank, back from the bridge an old, multi-storey building rises and the roofs of a village slope down in the distance beyond.
