The image captures a candid moment featuring an individual standing against a backdrop of vertical blinds, likely part of the exterior facade of a building. The person is dressed in layered clothing including what appears to be a scarf or shawl draped around their neck and shoulders, over which they wear another garment with visible patterns. They also have on trousers that seem worn and darkened by use. In one hand, they hold an object resembling a bottle, possibly glass, suggesting it might contain some liquid. The person's expression is animated as if caught mid-speech or gesture, adding to the spontaneous feel of the photograph. Their feet are clad in what appear to be work boots with signs of wear and dirt on them. The monochrome tones enhance the texture contrasts between the individual’s clothing and their surroundings, from the rough fabric textures to the smoother surfaces of the metallic blinds behind them. The lighting is even across the scene without harsh shadows or

The image is a black and white photograph featuring the face of an individual in close-up, with blurred figures surrounding them. The person appears to be Thelonious Monk based on the text annotation provided at the bottom which reads "The Monk," suggesting that this could indeed be a portrait or depiction associated with him. There's additional handwritten script indicating "Concertgebouw" and what seems like his signature in cursive, hinting at an association with Amsterdam Concert Hall. This photograph is part of Ed van der Elsken's collection, as indicated by the source link provided which references Portret van Thelonious Monk bij een optreden in het Concertgebouw. The year mentioned suggests it was taken in 1961 during a concert event at this location. Van der Elsken is known for his work capturing various aspects of life and culture, particularly within urban environments. The image is a monochrome photograph with handwritten text in multiple colors. It features the silhouette of an individual who appears to be playing a piano, as indicated by their posture and what seems like keys at the lower part of the frame. The background has blurry light spots that suggest movement or out-of-focus city lights, typical of street photography from its era. Prominently displayed in the upper left corner are three lines of text: "E MONK" with each letter colored differently—red for 'E', blue for 'MONK', and pink again for 'MONK'. To the right side, there's a large white handwritten cursive script that reads "E J". Below this individual, in smaller letters but still discernible, is another line of text: "AA". The overall composition has an artistic feel with its use of colors to highlight specific names and the monochromatic tones creating a moody atmosphere. The photograph captures what appears to be a candid moment from jazz culture during that period, possibly

The image is a black and white photograph that appears to be of an intricate mural or painting. The artwork depicts numerous figures, many of whom are crucified on crosses in various styles suggesting different periods or interpretations of the Christian concept of martyrdom. Some individuals stand nearby observing the scene, while others engage with animals such as cows. In the foreground, there is a group of people walking through what seems to be a forested area. The figures' clothing varies from robe-like garments to traditional Western attire like hats and coats, indicating different social statuses or time periods within the depicted scenes. The mural's background features stylized trees with dense foliage at the bottom transitioning into lighter shades towards the top, which could represent hills or mountains in the distance under a sky. The overall composition is busy, filled with details that suggest a historical narrative possibly relating to religious persecution and surv

Straatgezicht in Japan, Ed van der Elsken, 1959 - 1970

http://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en/collection/RP-F-2019-299-36-5

The image is a black and white photograph depicting an urban street scene in Japan, likely from the late 1950s or early 1960s given its vintage appearance. The setting appears to be a bustling commercial area with various signs written in Japanese characters indicating shops such as restaurants, bars, and other businesses. A large Ferris wheel stands prominently on the right side of the photo, adding an element of amusement park-like charm to the urban landscape. Several people are visible walking down the street, dressed in what looks like mid-20th-century attire for Japan's citizens at that time: men wearing suits or casual coats and women wearing dresses with striped patterns. The expressions on their faces suggest a sense of everyday activity without any significant interaction captured between them. The architecture features tall buildings with numerous windows reflecting the overcast sky, suggesting an urban environment. The photograph is credited to Ed van der Elsken, as i
