So happy to have captured this — my best astro photo to date. This is, of course, the Andromeda Galaxy, our nearest galactic neighbor at a stone’s throw of 2.5 million light years away. You can also see M110 and M32, its two brightest satellite galaxies (out of a whopping 35 dwarf galaxies orbiting around it). Shot with a Dwarf 3 telescope under a starry Idaho night sky, which was stunning even with the naked eye.

The Andromeda Galaxy (M31), its spiral disc tilted at a 45° angle from lower left to upper right, in a field of stars. Its two brightest satellite galaxies are visible as glowing smudges, M110 at lower right and M32 at upper left closer to the bright galactic core.

Shot with a Dwarf 3 smart telescope, 281 stacked photos at 15s exposure per frame, edited in Snapseed.

@bluejay@ohai.social @briankrebs@infosec.exchange A nice image indeed. Not to be too pedantic but the Andromeda Galaxy is hardly our nearest galactic neighbor. There are at least 50 other mostly small, obscure galaxies that are closer. The image shows all galaxies closer to us than M31. The ones brighter than 14 mag are labeled.
