So happy to have captured this — my best astro photo to date. This is, of course, the Andromeda Galaxy, our nearest galactic neighbor at a stone’s throw of 2.5 million light years away. You can also see M110 and M32, its two brightest satellite galaxies (out of a whopping 35 dwarf galaxies orbiting around it). Shot with a Dwarf 3 telescope under a starry Idaho night sky, which was stunning even with the naked eye.

The Andromeda Galaxy (M31), its spiral disc tilted at a 45° angle from lower left to upper right, in a field of stars. Its two brightest satellite galaxies are visible as glowing smudges, M110 at lower right and M32 at upper left closer to the bright galactic core.

Shot with a Dwarf 3 smart telescope, 281 stacked photos at 15s exposure per frame, edited in Snapseed.

Wow this is so good! Hello NASA? I think someone hacked your cameras

@bluejay@ohai.social Thx for sharing! Well done. Need to try with my dwarf 3 at a darker spot. Appreciate the inspo!

Beautiful image. Note that with the naked eye - or binoculars - you'll only see the bright blob in the middle, the galaxy's core, which is already larger than the Moon in the sky. The spiral arms only show up in long exposure. It really is a huge object, and close by.

stellar!!!

or is interstellar more appropriate??
either - gorgeous!!

@bluejay@ohai.social @briankrebs@infosec.exchange A nice image indeed. Not to be too pedantic but the Andromeda Galaxy is hardly our nearest galactic neighbor. There are at least 50 other mostly small, obscure galaxies that are closer. The image shows all galaxies closer to us than M31. The ones brighter than 14 mag are labeled.

@bluejay@ohai.social I quite literally gasped "Oh my god!" when I saw this image. Absolutely stunning!

The detail on M110 and M32 is incredible / that Dwarf 3 really delivered the goods on this one.

@bluejay@ohai.social Your photo is 2.5 Million years in the past. dinosaurs are still walking the planet.

@bluejay@ohai.social very cool! The spirals turned out quite nice. How long was the exposure time ?

Better than the ones I captured with my Seestar S50 yet. For Andromeda it' s a bit of a challenge because the FOV is smaller, so it needs to do a "mosaic" .
