Pink and violet December sunrise, Scoville Reservoir, Wolcott, Connecticut. December 6, 2019, 6:54 AM.

We are standing a few feet uphill from the shore of a large lake that has frozen over and been dusted with snow. A mixed forest of leafless hardwoods, hemlocks and pines surrounds the lake. A wooden footbridge crosses the mouth of a small cove in front of us, leading to a grove of tall old pines and hemlocks across the cove. The cloudy sky is being tinted vivid pink and violet by the imminent sunrise. A few unfrozen patches of the lake below mirror these colors.
