It looks like there are 2 hummingbird kids zooming around the nectar feeder. They are fattening up for their trip south later this month. And the big, solitary wasps have started to appear.

This picture shows a female ruby throated hummingbird in mid-hover while it drinks from a nectar feeder. She's pretty stout, making me think she's the mom. This picture shows an adult male ruby throated hummingbird (The Yard Boss) resettling its feathers. It's red gorget is fully illuminated by the sun. I believe this is a different, slimmer female ruby throated hummingbird approaching the nectar feeder. This was a large wasp, about 1.5 inches long. Its head and thorax are black and it has orangish wings. It has a tiny waist connecting the thorax to the rest of its abdomen, thus leading to its name, "thread waisted wasp."
