Good day,

One of the things that has always fascinated me about living in the western half of the US is how it proudly displays its geology…

Be everwell.

Beyond a wooden fence on the prairie, and beneath a partly cloudy sky, rises Independence Rock in Wyoming, a mound of solid rock that stands alone. A red bluff dotted with green trees rises in central Wyoming, its layers clearly visible. The sky is clear, but hazy. Above golden trees rises sheer cliffs in Blodgett Canyon, Montana, the sky cloudy. The canyon is the result of glaciers, the tops of the canyon wall jagged. A rocky promontory in Glacier National Park in Montana rises beneath a mostly clear sky, the grass surrounding it a deep gold. The layers of sedimentary rock are easily visible, and there's snow around its base.

This is because the geology in mid and eastern part of this continent either doesn't exist, is in remote areas, or is covered with trees or human works. Living where I do and going back east, I'm always looking for non-existent mountains. Have to go far north to see anything worth the name.
