This is one of my favorite plants in . Gentiana algida (Arctic Gentian). It has an interesting holarctic distribution, including populations spanning Northern Asia and Alaska, with the Rocky Mountains being disjunct from the rest. In the Colorado Rockies, it grows at high elevation (10,000-14,000ft). I see it flowering every year in late Summer in sub-alpine meadows and alpine tundra ecosystems.

There are populations spread throughout the northern hemisphere, but the Rocky Mountains region is distinctly separated from the rest of the populations. A dimunitive plant with densely bunched narrow leaves and a large white and purple goblet or bell shaped flowers.
