Black and white photo in landscape format of a group of 11 photographers in a photo club or workshop lead by an older gentleman.

The young photographers are grouped in two rows with their backs to the camera in the lower right quadrant of the frame. The first row has 7 people kneeling and sitting actively taking photos. The second row, closer to the camera, has the remaining four photographers doing the same and the leader/instructor.

Their subject is a young woman in the center of the photo. She is leaping in the air in the middle of an arched walking bridge over a small canal. At the apex of the jump, she has both hands above her with palms facing the sky, and both knees bent behind her at a 90 degree angle.

The background of the photo consists of: tress behind and left and right of the walking bridge; a young girl with back facing the camera on another walking path on the opposite side of the bridge in front of a fresh water lake; and thick cumulus clouds in the top center of th

Black and white photo in portrait format of my son practicing soroban (abacus) calculations.

The photo was shot as my son is sitting at a table over his right shoulder from behind. His head and top of right should fill the entire left third of the frame. His left hand is holding the left side of the soroban to keep it steady, and his right hand is moving the 8th upper bead from the left. The soroban is resting on top of two sheets of multiplication and division math practice sheets of paper.

Directly left and above above the sheets of paper on a corner of the table is a round ceramic dish holding office utility clips. Above and middle of the sheets of paper is a small binder memo book. Above that is a keyboard and monitor facing opposite my son. Above and to the left of the sheets is a rectangular pencil eraser. And under his right forearm is a ball point pen.

Black and white photo in landscape format of a falconry show at Potzberg Wildlife Park and Bird of Prey Zoo, Germany.

The falconer has a royal eagle perched on his extended left forearm/hand with right arm extended to the crowd narrating how the park's birds are trained.

A large crowd of seated onlookers, backs facing the camera, are in front of the falconer. Some are taking photos.

The far, hazy background consists of farm plots and densely populated areas of trees, and grey skies covering the top third of the frame. A small passenger or commercial airplane is barely visible in the top right quadrant of the photo.

128/365 Family portrait taken in 2012.

#photography #manualFocus #365project #family #archive

Color photo family portrait in landscape format painted by a late afternoon shadow on an light grey colored asphalt walkway.

The walkway curves from the bottom right corner and extends roughly 10-15 meters in distance to just below the top right corner of the photo. Our shadows start at the bottom center of the photo. Pictured right to left: our son with hands on top of his head, my wife standing straight up holding out dog's leash, our dog sitting down, and me looking through the EVF taking the photo.

Medium length grass borders the walkway on both left and right. Train tracks extend horizontally across the photo just below the top of the frame.

Black and white photo in landscape format of eight empty (disarmed) naval sea mines arranged in a half circle 1-2 meters apart along the outside of a curved roadway. Each mine is buried about a quarter of its total size.

Long late afternoon shadows from the mines and trees in the background cover the road in approximately at a 4 o'clock angle.

124/365 Why? (see ALT text)

#photography #365project #blackandwhite #monochrome #archive

Black and white photo of a power substation in landscape format.

The foreground has a chain link fence running horizontally across the frame from left to right at a 30 degree angle with a vertical support pole in the middle. To the right of the support pole, a white sign with black text horizontally centered reads:

"SAFETY HAZARD"
DO NOT LOCK BIKES TO THE FENCE
LOCKS WILL BE CUT

Behind the fence in the background are various current carrying components.

Obviously people lock their bikes to the fence, which is why the sign was posted. But it still begs the question: how could anyone lack the common sense to not figure this out themself?!?!

#silentSunday #photography #365project #flowers #archive

Color photo of a group of small blooming flowers with white petals in landscape format.

The close-up, almost macro photo was taken in the early morning with the rising sun peeking from the far horizon providing a strong backlighted/flaring light source in the top center of the frame. The small group of four flowers in focus in the center of the frame particularly stand out due to this light source. Two blooming flowers, pointing upwards, have deep shadowed pistils visible through their closest petals. Three dark maroon leaves surrounding the flowers are glowing in the sunlight with clearly defined network of veins and triangular edges.

The rest of the scene, a backdrop of the tree trunk, branches, flowers, and leaves, are buried out of focus in deep shadows and flare.
