Beneath a deep blue desert sky with streaky white clouds we are standing atop cracked pinkish violet rocks looking down several hundred feet into a landscape of narrow shallow canyons and rock formations below. There are striations of color throughout: chalky white, blue gray, pinkish violet. A scattering of olive green shrubs are the only signs of life in an otherwise barren landscape. Beyond the colorful hills is a sprawling flat grassland. Many miles away on the horizon, a lofty mountain range with several snowcapped peaks rises above that plain.

I woke up in late November to rare, foggy conditions at my place in northeast New Mexico. Some well-structured fog was hanging out down in the canyons. I hurried to put on some clothes and get out the door for some photos. Fortunately, this canyon is essentially in my backyard. I hiked up the canyon a little way for this view. It looked like an entirely different place. - Harding County, New Mexico, USA
