Muchos celebramos cuando Trump capturó a Maduro en enero y cuando bombardeo Irán en febrero. Entendí la alegría. Después de tantos años de dictadura, cualquier golpe a esos regímenes se siente como justicia.
Pero tengo que decirlo como es: ni Venezuela ni Irán son libres hoy. El pueblo sigue sufriendo la misma tiranía.
En Venezuela quien gobierna hoy es Delcy Rodriguez. La misma vicepresidenta de Maduro. El mismo partido. Los mismos generales. Los mismos colectivos armados en los barrios. Lo unico que cambio fue el negocio del petróleo.
Trump hizo un acuerdo con ella. Dijo textual en la ONU: Al vencedor le corresponde el botín. Y que entre Estados Unidos y Venezuela controlan el 60 por ciento del petróleo del mundo. Las petroleras americanas ya están entrando. Pero en Venezuela todavía hay más de 800 presos políticos, según el Foro Penal. No hay fecha para elecciones libres. No hay libertad de prensa. El venezolano sigue sin poder decir lo que piensa sin miedo a que lo metan preso. Cambio el socio del negocio, no el sistema.
En Irán paso igual. Bombardearon las instalaciones nucleares. Trump dijo que las destruyó. Pero el Ayatola sigue en el poder. La Guardia Revolucionaria sigue mandando. Las mujeres siguen siendo arrestadas por no ponerse el velo. Hace pocos días ejecutaron a más manifestantes. Lo que Trump está negociando con Irán no es libertad para el pueblo Iraní. Es que no hagan bombas nucleares, a cambio de dejarlos vender petróleo otra vez. El pueblo Iraní sigue bajo la misma bota.
Y por eso me preocupa tanto lo que está haciendo con Cuba.
Porque si el modelo que le van a aplicar a Cuba es el de Venezuela, entonces no estamos hablando de libertad. Estamos hablando de asfixia.
Le quitan el petróleo a Cuba. Ningún barco puede entrar sin que Estados Unidos lo sancione. Por eso México ya no manda. Por eso incautó el barco Grace. Por eso hay apagones de infinitas horas sin contar el Estado de las termoeléctricas y la mala gestión de 67 años eso es aparte. Y cuando el país ya no aguanta más, se sientan a negociar con la misma cúpula. Que se quede un tiempo más a cambio de abrir el pais a negocios.
El pueblo cubano en el medio pagando el precio. Con hospitales sin luz, con niños sin leche, con 96 mil personas esperando operación según admitió la propia viceministra.
Yo no estoy defendiendo a ningún régimen. Odio esas dictaduras tanto como cualquiera que tuvo que irse de su país.
Lo que estoy diciendo es que la verdadera libertad no la trae un presidente americano con una orden ejecutiva. La libertad real es cuando el cubano de a pie puede abrir un negocio sin que le caiga un inspector, cuando puede hablar en la calle sin que lo vigile la seguridad del estado, cuando puede votar por quien quiera sin miedo, cuando puede entrar y salir de su País cuando quiera.
Eso no ha pasado en Venezuela. No ha pasado en Irán. Y me duele pensar que tampoco pase en Cuba.
No quiero un cambio de dueño. Quiero una Cuba libre de verdad.
Y si vamos a apoyar algo, que sea al pueblo de Cuba, no a ningún acuerdo entre magnates hecho por encima de la cabeza del pueblo.

Many of us celebrated when Trump captured Maduro in January and when he bombed Iran in February. I understood that joy. After so many years of dictatorship, any blow against those regimes feels like justice.
But I have to say it plainly: neither Venezuela nor Iran is free today. Their peoples continue to suffer under the same tyranny.
In Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez is the one governing today. Maduro’s same vice president. The same party. The same generals. The same armed colectivos in the neighborhoods. The only thing that changed was the oil business.
Trump reached an agreement with her. He said verbatim at the United Nations: “To the victor belong the spoils.” And that between the United States and Venezuela, they control 60 percent of the world’s oil. American oil companies are already moving in. But Venezuela still has more than 800 political prisoners, according to Foro Penal. There is no date for free elections. There is no freedom of the press. Venezuelans still cannot say what they think without fearing imprisonment. The business partner changed, not the system.
The same happened in Iran. They bombed the nuclear facilities. Trump said he had destroyed them. But the Ayatollah remains in power. The Revolutionary Guard is still in command. Women are still being arrested for refusing to wear the veil. Just days ago, more demonstrators were executed. What Trump is negotiating with Iran is not freedom for the Iranian people. It is an agreement: no nuclear bombs in exchange for being allowed to sell oil again. The Iranian people remain under the same boot.
And that is why I am so concerned about what he is doing with Cuba.
Because if the model they intend to apply to Cuba is Venezuela’s, then we are not talking about freedom. We are talking about suffocation.
They cut off Cuba’s oil. No ship can enter without the United States sanctioning it. That is why Mexico no longer sends it. That is why they seized the Grace vessel. That is why there are endless blackouts—quite apart from the condition of the power plants and 67 years of poor management; that is a separate matter. And when the country can no longer bear it, they sit down to negotiate with the very same ruling elite: they are allowed to stay a little longer in exchange for opening the country to business.
The Cuban people are caught in the middle, paying the price: hospitals without power, children without milk, and 96,000 people waiting for surgery, according to the deputy minister herself.
I am not defending any regime. I hate those dictatorships as much as anyone who has had to leave their country.
What I am saying is that real freedom is not brought by an American president with an executive order. Real freedom is when ordinary Cubans can open a business without an inspector coming after them; when they can speak in the street without State Security watching them; when they can vote for whomever they choose without fear; when they can enter and leave their country whenever they wish.
That has not happened in Venezuela. It has not happened in Iran. And it pains me to think it may not happen in Cuba either.
I do not want a change of owners. I want a Cuba that is truly free.
And if we are going to support something, let it be the people of Cuba—not any agreement between magnates made over the heads of the people.
