There's not a cloud in the piercingly blue sky on this hot day. There are low buildings and walls around a sloping bit of stone-paved land, all of them painted and plastered in white, typical of Greek structures in the Mediterranean. Tourists gather near a wide opening in the nearest wall on the right and their guide holds a Greek flag on a pole to help them keep track of his position. Motorbikes and cars are parked on the sloping area behind the wall and there's a bar with some awnings stretched out in front just behind the tourists. The name "Zorba's" is written in large black lettering on the upper part of the low building. Just beyond another low wall that runs around the top of the sloped parking area we can see five small windmills, one of them largely hidden by some other buildings. Each windmill is cylindrical, with thick white walls and a thatched, conical roof. Twelve, long, thin poles form the shape of the windmill blades but there are no sails mounted between them, leaving

This day two years ago wife and I began a 3-day road trip that altered our life trajectory: Visiting from US, we left Bengaluru to give tech talks at Udupi colleges, and now we practically live in Udupi, doing things we never imagined we would.

All changes for good AFAICT. I hope and pray the changes and the experience remain, grow. 🙇‍♂️

Some pictures from just the first ~5 hours of the trip:

  1. Shot from inside a moving car
  2. Koodli, confluence of rivers Thunga and Bhadra to form the mighty Thungabhadra
  3. Sharadaa temple, installed ~13 centuries ago
  4. Sharaawathi river, heading into Linganamakki Dam

Lush green hills with several white windmills on top. Blue skies filled with white, gray fluffy clouds. Soft early morning sun falling on the hills. Wide angle shot of two rivers meeting. Screen left, the water is red due to dirt from fresh rains. Screen right, the water is green. Green tree-lined banks on both sides of the river(s) (and the combined river is very wide). Bright blue sky with some white clouds. Sunlight highlights the clouds as well as parts of the river water. A Hindu temple on a river bank. Two small buildings on the side, larger one in the middle. The middle building has three cupolas; the other two buildings have one cupola each. All buildings are painted blue and red. The cupolas are painted gold. A large tiled yard with a roof overhead in front of the buildings. Green trees in the background. A river with greenish water. Lush green trees and bushes on both banks. Blue skies with white clouds. Sunlight falls on the greenery and the river water.
