OK, yet another bee-on-flower.. but I'm quite pleased with the 70-300IS + 500D combo. Although it's harder to use, when it works it gives that bit more zoom, and more detail.

This one is a carder bee of some sort - probably a common carder bee but there are others round here which are similar.

A fluffy beige and cream bumble bee, photographed with pin sharp clarity so you can see every hair, sitting on a pink flower with green spiky bits around it.

Male ruddy darter - this guy seriously wanted his photo taken. He kept circling round and landing right in front of the camera - I though he was going to land on the lens at one point!

A bright red dragonfly sitting on a stick, looking right at the camera. The depth of field is shallow so the outstretched wings are just in focus but the long red body tailing off behind is blurred.

I promised some dragonfly pics.. here's a slightly battered looking female ruddy darter - ragged wings, missing a leg, but she still had a glint in her eye watching me as I was taking pictures.

Female ruddy darter dragonfly hanging from the end of a short branch.She has a long yellow-orange abdomen, yellow thorax with black stripes, slightly ragged wings and massive eyes which are red on top.
