Going through my from 2019, while trying to capture a mood for some writing, I had another look at this image; the multitude of individual human dramas and stories. The young women at the bottom corners like compositional Lamassu. Laughing couples, pensive hawkers... then I was brought up short. That one guy at the other end of the clearing in the crowd, who had stopped dead, and stared straight down the barrel of the camera while I took the shot.

Bravo.

A street scene in crowded Dotonburi Osaka. Lit signs and billboards and cables stringing across the space, people on bikes, looking at phones, holding signs for restaurants, and in the middle distance, across a clearing in the crowd, is a man standing dead-still, staring straight at me. A closeup crop and zoom of the man, he appears to be Indian, or SriLankan, and is standing casually with one hand in a pocket, body diagonal to the camera, and face turned directly towards the lens.
