Reality and honesty are virtues we think of when it comes to photography, but how many of us see the camera as a tool of art more than documentary?

In this essay I explore a handful of ideas from Susan Sontag's book "On Photography" and the difference between telling the truth and telling stories. Ultimately, photography is always art, so why not embrace the craft of visual storytelling and make your photography even stronger.

I don’t think I’ve mentioned it, but in the end I decided not to go to the Academy of Fine Arts. Before I started working in IT, I worked as a journalist for a Polish newspaper. Journalism has always been a passion of mine, but unfortunately, it wasn’t very well paid.

I never completely gave up on that passion, though, and this October… I’m starting a Master’s degree at the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies at the University of Warsaw.

I decided I wanted to focus more on journalism than art, which is why I chose the University of Warsaw. Although the specialization I’ll be doing is Photography, Film, Television and Reportage.

I don’t want to make art just for the sake of making art. And this might sound a little naive, but I want to actually “change” something and do something good for people.
