This is from January 19, when the northern lights were visible in my city in the Netherlands.

It still amazes me. 🥰

(Another one is pinned to my profile)

City, small field, garbage bin and tiny tree in the front, houses, at night. In the dark sky a cloud and green northern lights. For me it is still surreal.

Tonight is the night, Montana! The partial lunar eclipse begins ~8:30, peaks ~10:10 & ends ~11:50. PLUS: the northern lights should be visible (fewer clouds west than east). PLEASE send me your photos! I'll have your complete 7-day weather forecast tonight!

Forked Tongue

Aurora lights the sky above Fardagafoss in eastern Iceland.

An unusually clear night in October means that it's well below freezing but we aren't troubled by clouds. Even though we weren't in a dark sky area (it was a Bortle¹ 4) we could still see lots of stars.

This lovely display lasted for almost two hours.

¹ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bortle_scale

A colour photo of green aurora across a dark sky filled with stars. The loops of vivid green begin at the centre left of the photo and continue across in three main arcs, a strong bright one fading near the centre of the shot, another containing standing bars is dipping down to the horizon and one loop of light at the right of centre has two beams rising from it, reminiscent of the forked tongue of a snake. In the lower right quarter is more diffuse green aurora. The horizon is a silhouette of a hillside, some trees and a power pylon are highlighted by aurora behind them.

FIESOLE- Veduta DELL'AURORA E CAMPANILE DELLA CATTEDRALE

https://fotografia.cultura.gov.it/iccd/item/FFC030568

The image is a vintage postcard showing the Aurora Hotel in Fiesole, Italy. The hotel building with its sign "Aurora" prominently displayed on top of it and an adjacent bell tower stand out against the backdrop of green trees. Below the illustration of the buildings, there's handwritten cursive text that reads: "Veduta dell'Aurora Hôtel e campane della Cattedrale," which translates to "View of Aurora Hotel and Bell Tower." Additional script in a different hand appears at the bottom right corner with the name "Mario I. 5034" suggesting it may be signed by someone who visited or stayed there, possibly Mario himself. The top-right corner has printed text that reads "Fiesole," indicating the location of this hotel view depicted on the card.
