I went for a quick walk during my lunch break on Thursday, and on a little reserve underneath some of those huge transmission towers there was a patch of grass with some tiny purple flowers that a little fleet of bees seemed particularly interested in.

I got a bunch of great bee shots, but I particularly love this one. I think I like the way it captures the sense of the continuous "on the move" that all of the bees had, as well as the vastness of the area (in comparison to the size of the bees), as well as the fact that you can see the rather large pollen quarry it's hauling around. Aside from a little sharpen, this is straight off the camera.

I'll probably stick some of the others up at some point, but the tricky part will be whittling down the selection...!

Little unassuming mudsnail looking a bit more glamorous from a macro perspective. In North America, they are quite common only in a narrow slice of the western coast, where they are labelled "invasive," a term that amuses me only in that it implies a lot more culpability than these guys clearly have.
