"Bamboo Lattice" for

Bamboo is a grass (Poaceae family, the "true grasses") but I guess to every bug on the ground, grass looks just a forest. 😁 Bamboo's a bigger grass, and we're just bigger bugs. :)

Photographed at Sun Moon Lake, Taiwan.

Vertical photo of a bamboo forest. The bamboo stalks lean diagonally and intersect with each other.

Photo theme - Market stalls

Jiufen, Taiwan, 2008.

We loved this former mining town turned into a tourist hotspot of market stalls and tea houses so much that we came back and visited it again in 2018. We had better weather the second time.

It's a dark, black and white scene, with high contrast showing off deep dark shadows and bright points of lighting. We're in a narrow alley lined with small shops with open fronts and stalls on display, some jutting out slightly into the alley space, all with an awning of some kind above as the weather warrants it. The alley's narrow enough that the overhead coverings from the small shops either side almost form a complete barrier to the elements but we can tell it's raining from the dampness on the ground and the done-up coats and raised umbrellas present. The alley heads forward from us only a half dozen metres past a couple of premises either side before it curves around to the right and is lost behind the shops there and the groups of people who are walking along each side, perusing what's on display, and opening up a narrow space to pass between them all. The signs have Chinese writing, some of them illuminated, and there are round, Chinese lanterns strung up along the front of al
